Is the airflow direction from top/right to bottom/left? (in the pics, the filter is oriented NW to SE)

Airflow is from top to bottom. I supplemented the OP's original writeup today with some notes of my own.

doug, the notes you added in the other forum are EXCELLENT. i recommend, for posterity, (if possible of course) that the notes and pictures are transferred over to this forum just in case anything happens to that other forum, so the information won't be lost.

I saw your writeup-- yours is indeed a better method if you can get yourself into position down on the floorboard like that, but I could not. I had to swing the glove box down to enable access.

Yeah, I didn't really like scrunching up on the floor under the dash either. Popping the glove compartment all the way open only take a minute. I actually used a 1/4" ratchet + 6" extension + T20 torx bit which I snaked up from below while looking in through the hole behind the glove compartment.
