Well.thats def a problem and could cause oil to leak out.I would think if all your oil leaked out that you would have a bearing spin or wear out before the rings broke on 3 pistons but i guess its possible.You did the right thing getting a new mechanic because if that guy could not put a valve cover on right he should have been installs.
