Does someone have some info that says the oil line actually caused this or are people just assuming/guessing?

so far assuming
Kinda what I thought. I haven't heard of one actually having an issue with the oil cooler lines just yet. Be interested to find out what actually caused it.

My bet is still on the oil filter. I think if it were oil line, due to the location this probably wouldnt have happened. Also a major rupture in that line will cause the car to go into limp mode due to low oil pressure. Oil filter however can develop a small leak and its location is perfect to cause a fire.

Well the only other ACTUAL example of a failure that caused a fire was a failed snap ring. It's all speculation at this point but statistically, the snap ring should be the leading theory vs oil filter or oil cooler lines.

Edit: PS - to be clear - there was another incident that didn't seem to result in actual fire and that didn't get the same RCA that Joes car did.

Not so sure about this...

There are multiple stories of people arriving to their cars to find puddles of oil under their cars due to oil filter leaks.

There are also multiple stories of cars using oil in ways even Ford dealers can't seam to find out how.

But here's another posture... the owner of the burned R hasn't voiced the story to us yet so we have no idea what happened and how, only the result. For all we know, he could have had an unclamped fuel line under the hood, an oil line leak, he could've been on the way home from WalMart after getting an oil change... who knows?

Hope the person is alright. From an insurance perspective, it is very possible u get close to what was paid even adm. One of the great things about these cars holding/ exceding their value. If my hellcat burns down I take it in the shorts lol.

yeah that's a good point; insurance companies will typically give you market value for your car - most insurers you can show current listings of prices & sales if it's a limited or specialty car vs. just going off of blue book value. Would hate to be a Z/28 owner in that case, who may have paid an ADM when they came out, then now selling for $25k off MSRP brand new!

Man if mine had that recall there's no way I'd be driving it especially on long trips. This isn't the first one to go up and I'm sure there's been more that nobody's heard about. Could Ford come back and deny seeing that they sent out that letter? Maybe insurance deny seeing that it's a known issue and Ford issued a warning to owners about it? I wouldn't want to test it...

I think unless you have a agreed value insurance policy you are going to have a hard time getting your ADM.

They did not state not to drive it. So no to all of the above.

I hate all this jumping the gun crap. Have we seen more than one car go up? Yes. Has any been conclusively linked to the recall? Not that we know of. If anything, they should issue a recall on the oil filter assembly and find a simple way of locking it in place.
