This morning while letting my car warm up I noticed the brake lights weren't on even though my foot was on the pedal from when I started the car. I can see the lights reflect off the garage door at night. My foot is resting on the pedal but no real pressure. Anymore pressure than that and the lights come on.

Skip to I’m driving to work and I’m coming up to a stop light. Same thing. I don't see my lights on in the grille of the truck behind me unless I really press the brake pedal. Do I just need a new position sensor? I don't want to have to always boot my brake pedal to get the lights to turn on so I dont get rear ended.

I'm not familiar with these specific sensors, but typically, electrical, it either works or it doesn't. Applying more or less pressure to engage it could be something in the electrical contacts, could be something else. Swapping the sensor/switch is a good first place to check.

Any mods ever done to the brakes, suspension?

Your signature lists your car as a 2020. I'd have to study the warranty. Any chance your car is covered if you go to the dealer?

I don't think that switch is adjustable at all.
I suppose it's possible that you are missing a spacer or bumper of some sort.
I know some ford's and Mustangs are under a brake switch recall.
In any case a '20 car should still be under warranty unless it has over 36k miles.
Are you having any trouble with starting or getting out of neutral?

The brake light switch is a good old fashioned position switch. Nothing pressure related or anything like that. It may be out of position or maybe now that you noticed the slack zone before it engages it just seems like more than it really is. I don't recall it having any adjustment but a trip to the dealership should remedy anything that may be wrong.

Have someone check the 3rd light, that will at least tell if the brake light switch is working.
