Guys.... I see that the "new" Borla Touring cat back now comes with a resonator instead of an X pipe....:frusty:

Having had mine fitted now for 2 weeks, I'm not convinced I like the raspiness at higher RPM's...

I love the deep rumble at lower revs:thumbsup::thumbsup::hail: but it sounds a bit harsh higher up the revs...

So the question is, as the resonator is a straight swap for the X pipe, do I just buy the Resonator box and reduce the volume and harshness.....

Just to clarify I've had really loud V8's in the past, and it's not somthing I want with the Mustang.....

Opinions appreciated

If you prefer a rumble to a rasp, you want an H-pipe not an X-pipe.

When I ordered my exhaust I went for the touring with the centre silencer and its slimmer and if I remember correctly its lighter too.

Is this resonator lighter (probably) / louder (possibly) than stock?
It is indeed lighter, shorter, and louder than stock.

I originally replaced my stock resonator with an MRT H-pipe. I liked the sound overall, but it had a bit of rasp and harshness sometimes.

I recently swapped it all out for the FRPP by Borla GT350 catback and valance, which came with an X-pipe. I loved the sound, especially the deep idle, but it was very loud and got really raspy at high RPM's. For me, as a daily driver, it just wasn't acceptable.

So...I decided to take a chance on the resonator. Borla sells it as an add-on for those who are wanting to tone down their S-Type and ATAK systems. While mine is technically neither of those, the swap-out was very easy with no fitment issues whatsoever.

The sound is now more refined and totally void of rasp at any RPM. The volume is similar to what I had with the factory system with the MRT H-pipe, but its a very different tone. I sometimes miss the race car-esque sounds that it made before the resonator, but as a daily driver, I prefer it with the resonator.

Here she be! Sorry I don't have a picture from the side. It's very flat compared to the mufflers. Tucks in nicely underneath the car.

Talking of X-Pipe rasp, this is an extreme example from my old GT/CS (S197). It had American Racing longtube headers and race cats, with X-Pipe and SLP loudmouths.

It was too much!

Enoch, it's all good advice above but are you aware that the systems in your videos aren't different versions of the same product, they are different products, period? It's a bloody minefield trying to piece together but I recently puzzled my way to the conclusion that a "Borla Touring" is a "Borla S-Type" with their "Touring" muffler replacing the X-Pipe. So if there is any logic at all in Borla's hierarchy then an FRPP by Borla Touring (which has an X-pipe) and a Borla Touring (with the centre muffler) should be approximately the same volume. So my worry would be that if you add the touring muffler to the FRPP Touring system you could end up with something with the volume of a strangled fart. I think it might be worth trying out the the stock centre muffler spliced back in to see how that sounds before potentially chucking good money after bad. Either that or contact Borla and put them on the spot as I bet even they are confused.

Oh, and they also have 2 1/4", 2 1/2" and 3" pipe variables thrown into the mix and even an "EC approved" 'Touring now

All valid arguments Paul...

I will point out though, that my FRPP by Borla system is the touring version and came with the X-pipe. No strangled farts here following the addition of the resonator.

Fair enough AV80R, if you have it in the metal and are happy with it must work:). This is something I've probably spent way too much time fretting over anyway. It's what happens when you have 12 months to fill between order and delivery :frusty:

Thanks for the tip lazy.....

I think I'm with AV80R, in that although I bought a touring last June, that system now would be the S type, and the new touring is exactly the same system, but with a resonator instead of an X pipe....

I've done some cross referencing and when looking at part numbers, the above theory stacks up....
ie the "new" touring, and the S type use the same silencers, and bent pipes..
The only differences being the S type has an Xpipe, and the new touring has the resonator....
