An aftermarket tune can be reversed. Once you get a few key cycles on your stock tune (on/off) dealer is not going to know assuming the car is relatively stock. A blower and long tube headers probably will not help your case. ;).

So, bottom lune, let the modder beware. If you cannot afford to fix your car “if” something goes wrong don’t do it.

An aftermarket tune can be removed but what guarantee does the owner that all traces of it gone? Making assumptions can be both careless and expensive.

Thats a side conversation you should have again at your servicing Ford dealer. They get paid on warranty claims. Then YOU again will know your options. Some dealers allow more flexibility let’s say. This is not that complicated folks...

Agreed, but things change. Dealerships change hands, service managers change. What your told today could change tomorrow. I would add that you get things in writing. A verbal agreement is not a contract.

In the vast majority of warranty claims, the dealer will have no reason to investigate if your car had a tune. Of course, a serious or catastrophic driveline failure could arouse suspicion but those are rare if you have a good tuner.

Yes, there is a counter that increments every time you change the tune. They won’t know what the tune was, but they _will_ know that you’ve been messing with it.

When I had my intake manifold replaced under warranty, the first question they asked is what modifications I had done to the car.

I only had a catback done, but I have a feeling they were asking for a reason.

Called a key count. Plenty of valuable nuggets left in this thread for those that can use discernment. Next...

Just curious.....what was wrong with your intake manifold?

I had a random misfire, most pronounced at low engine speed. If you were cruising your feel the car surging. Intermittent CEL. P0300 and some other codes.

The IMRC shaft on one bank of the manifold snapped and rendered that side dead in the water. So half the engine had functioning IMRC’s and half didn’t. It was fine at WOT.

I told the dealer what it was and they ran about 4000 tests just to call me and tell me I was correct.

I have a thread about it if you look at my threads.
