My cars passenger side rear wheel fender is showing some bubbling, peeling, or something. Something bad?

Can anyone tell from the picture what I'm dealing with, how it would be repaired, and if warranty would cover it? (I'm still within 36000/3 yr)

since there isnt like a chip or anything to have caused it, then i would say it is definitely covered under warranty

i remember someone had a similar problem but there was a chip and it wasnt covered.

i also noticed on a closer look around that problem area it looks like it had an acupuncture type treatment and its not like that anywhere else

That's my worry... the fact that theres a bunch of needle point "holes" surrounding a big dimple. I know for a fact they can't tell me it's polisher burn through, corrosion from an impact, etc. I'm just wondering why its suddenly reacting like that and it hasn't for 31000 miles before.

Note: car has had wax since day 1

Looks like a poor repair was made at some time. Maybe the dealer touched it up when it was new. I have a buddy that paints for a dealership. Touches up brand new cars all the time.

I'm a detailing freak. I've known every square inch of the car since day 1. I just noticed this today while washing. So it just popped up... literally

That is definitely a repair. A very bad one too..... Have you left your car anywhere lately? Was it in for any warranty work? It's a picture so maybe it's not showing up like it looks in person, but if it is you can see dirt in the paint and everything. Those look to be what is called fish eyes. They're caused from silicone. Is that behind the wheel opening? Solvent poping looks different than that and rarely happens at the factory.

Looks like orange peel...an amateur mistake when painting a car (or just about anything else with a paint gun!)

Shouldn't be on a car from the factory: humans aren't spraying paint on cars anymore. I know, though, that our cars aren't dip painted: you can see white primer in areas that aren't visible (e.g. pull up the trunk carpet). If they were dipping the body to paint the car, then everything would be body colored in those areas, too ;)

wouldn't surprise me if that was a respray on a "new" car. You could buy a paint meter and test for that. Or just request a warranty repair.

I'll try my best to describe the spot... facing the passenger side tire, on the right fender, just before where my roush side scoop is.

Some answers: no, the area hasn't been touched by any body shop techs or similar to my knowledge, the area has popped up recently on an area that I'm 99% sure has been fine the last 31000 miles.

Unless you run a paint meter around the car, you probably won't be able to detect a re-spray. Which may have been done just before you bought the car.

Looks like the car was damaged and very poorly repaired at some point before you purchased the car. The paint defects/poor panel blending and crud between the quarter and the bumper reflect a very amateurish repair
I cannot imagine that a factory repair/repaint would be of such poor quality....but who knows?
I suspect it was damaged during transport or at the dealership.
If the dealership has body shop, it was repaired there or sent out to a local shop.
I would definitely file a warranty claim through Ford.
It is totally unacceptable.
