Well today my girlfriend and I went to the nissan dealer and got her a 2013 pre-certified nissan altima. I talked them down$5000 under asking price with a maintenance package, gap and extended 100,000 mile warranty. The finance manager told me I was lucky we went the last day of the month.

Bottom line is he told me the last day of the month is the best day to close a deal because they are trying to push the most cars off the lot for new orders.

So now the question.. if ur car arrives on the 20th of the month are you going to ask the dealer to wait untill the 31st and then go close the deal and most likely get a better deal or just go pick it up as soon as you get the call?

How about buying it on the last day of the fiscal year! In January 1999 we had a major snowstorm in Chicago that closed most businesses. As I was out looking for a generator, I noticed my dealer was open. I had been negotiating with them the last 7-10 days and never got close to a deal. So, I pulled in, put $1000 on a table, and asked them if they wanted to make a deal or if they were OK not selling a car that day. They looked at me like I was crazy. In the end I bought my truck for $1000 less than I offered the previous week but the deal was I had to go clean off the snow and dig it out and there was no dealer prep or cleaning.

For imports such as Nissan, the more they sell in a given month, the cheaper they pay for those vehicles. So selling you tgat one for a little less nets a higher profit margin on all sold that month. Ford doesn't work that way. Every dealership pays the same for the same car weather they sell one or fifty. At least it was like th at a few years ago. Unless something changed.

It has more to do with flooring costs. Having inventory costs money.

And no, I can't wait any longer. :)

That was your problem, you probably should have changed the oil every 3000miles... and the car she got is fairly new with low miles, so I wont have that problem

So, my question is: Why would you believe *anything* that the freaking finance manager told you? If he (or she, but usually "he") told me that the sky was blue, I would damn sure go outside and look for myself - holding my wallet with both hands for the entire trip.

Did it occur to you that he was stroking you? Have you watched these guys work? Haggling over every nickel, using "magic math".... and then congratulating you on what a great deal you made - "Boy, you sure screwed us on that deal! You're a really savvy buyer! We're going to need to make up our losses on the next guy so we can stay in business!"

Bullshit.

If I bought a car that day, it is because I was willing to pay a price that the dealer was willing to accept for that car. If they tell me that they are selling it at a loss because I am so smart.... I get up and *run* for the door - before I can find out what else they are willing to lie about.

I am totally in favor of a business making a profit. What I am not willing to do is allow the sales manager to have my ass mounted as a trophy to hang on the wall above his desk.

Qwkynuf is right. The dealer makes money no matter what, even if its Threehunna bucks, and they love to tickle your balls to make you think its a smashing deal. Rule of thumb...anytime they take money off, they will try to make it later. If they give a discount of X, they will try to get it back with warranty, financing, etc. Either that or they are already charging more than enough for the car.

BUT with that being said, that is the point of a dealer...to make money. They are gonna make money almost every single time, so an individual should instead focus on book values of a car with its options/mileage and go from there. Dealer can ask whatever they want but the book value is the law of the land as far as deals go.

As for the end of the month question, car buying deals only work with cars they want to get rid of. In general the end of the year is the best time for deals, which is why the manufacturers also have huge end of year sales. End of month doesn't really a huge deal, but you may get a desperate salesman on the verge of being fired. Also check product cycling; the end of a product cycle (ex. the current 2014 mustang) will have massive discounts to clear out for the new model.

Specialty cars have smaller discounts; a Mustang will ALWAYS have smaller discount than a Focus no matter what. An FRS will have a smaller discount than an xB.

None of that applies to 2015 Mustangs. These cars are so new and sought after, there are no manufacturer rebates and no dealer rebates. The best you will get is either the middle finger (if dealer decides to sell it to someone else), or smoke and mirrors ('discount' a warranty that was too expensive in the first place). Right now this is a hot car. Deals can be made a year from now when the new Camaro comes out and when its the end of the 2015 year when they are clearing out for 2016's, however I promise it wont be very generous.

I got them to show me the invoice on the car and I talked to the finance manager after the deal was made already. I was going to walk out already. I had the sales person and assistant manager in the room trying to tell me they weren't going to discount anymore. Eventually the manager came in and approved it and the deal ended there. So you cant tell me they tell me shit like that to try to make me feel better. Its not the first time I buy a car, I went into looking to spend x amount and walked out spending alot less then what I had planned. So regardless of the bullshit they told me I still win, I even made them buy me freakin pizza hut while I waited. Idk regardless if what anyone thinks or says I feel I got a great ass deal.

We have a winner!

Either way, if you think you got a great deal then good for you. Dont worry about what everyone else thinks. I will not be waiting till the end of the month. I know I'm getting a great deal no matter what day of the month.
