Base Unit with 5 CH Amp

Hey guys,

I have bought 4 speakers for the front and the rear of my base v6.
I also have a 4 ch + mono amp (Alpine MRX-V70).

I want to run the 4 speakers into the channels for the amp and then a sub later on.

I am very confused where to begin. I have tried reading the other threads but it seems like everyone is speaking as if they think everyone completely understands and are fellow audio gurus.

Complete noob here. Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction. How do I install the amp and to the 4 new speakers?

I know how to install the speakers into the door panel and rear so thats not what I am asking. I am asking how to link the amp to the headunit and the speakrs to the amp.

I'm going to attempt to lay it out as best I can... hopefully won't get too wordy.

First of all, you have four speakers up front, tweeters in the pillars and woofers in the doors, and rear speakers as well... that's six speakers to power from a four channel amp.
Probably the simplest way would be to buy as set of component speakers that has a "passive" crossover to divide the high and low frequencies. You would then connect your amps channels 1 & 2 to the passive crossover and connect that to your speakers. That would leave you amp channels 3 & 4 to run the rear speaker off and channel 5 for the future sub.

Your Alpine amp has speaker level inputs. Because you have the base stereo, its amp is built into the head unit, so you will need to pick off the speaker level outputs from the head unit and run wires to the speaker level inputs on your amp (we'll assume this is located in the trunk). You can do this by splicing into wires 22/10 (left) and 23/11 (right) in the picture below.

You will then need to run speaker wires of some sort from the amp to the passive crossover and from the crossover to the front speakers. The crossover can be located in the trunk, under the front seats or wherever it makes sense. You will also run speaker wires to the rear speakers which will likely be coaxials and have their own built in crossover.

At some point, you will need to run power from the battery to the amp, there are several threads about how to do that. You will also need a turn on wire run to the amp. In the premium systems, fuse #23 in the passengers footwell stays active with the radio, but I'm not sure if it's the same with the base system... take a peek in your owners manual.

Thanks for the info that does help. Question though. I don't want to connect the tweeters to the amp. Would I still need a crossover? Is this possible.... I see in the wiring diagram that the tweeter speaker is not separated in the pin and is split somewhere in the front door wiring (is this correct)?

Either in the front door or somewhere in the wire loom going to the door. Are you going to be using coaxials up front?

Gotcha... So likely, the crossover is just a capacitor across the tweeter in that speaker.

So I have a new problem now. I was opening the door panel and got it off and all. When I got to the speaker my speaker wouldn't fit. The rim for the screws isnt large enough. ITs a 6 3/4 so I don't understand.

So the factory speaker is a 6.5 I believe. Some people have been modifying the factory bracket to make new speakers fit. I would recommend tracing the factory bracket on to a piece of MDF and using that to mount the new speakers on.

I'm gearing up to upgrade my stereo as well, and this was incredibly helpful. Particularly the remote. I'd seen in another thread where one guy spliced in to his rear camera wire in the trunk for remote and though to myself "wouldn't it be easier to just directly wire it to a switch in the fuse box for a cleaner install?" I too am thinking of a 5 channel Alpine amp, though I'm starting with the sub (probably Type R) and will upgrade the interior speakers along the way.
