Base Radio Sync V5.9 Update

I've tried re-pairing bluetooth. I've reset sync, and I have even tried a full reset (deleted all setting apps etc) on my phone. None of these have helped the situation.

When you're on a call, does your phone give you the option to switch from PHONE, SPEAKER, & SYNC. You'll find this on the active call screen.

The phone does give me the option of switching the audio output destination and it defaults to sync. I could switch to speaker to make a call, but bluetooth wouldn't work even when I tried switch back and fourth between sync and another output.

This morning I pulled the sync fuse (#32), waited a minute and then reinserted it. After doing this and re-pairing my phone with sync, everything seemed to work again. I tried a couple of test calls and in both cases the audio came through the car speakers.

Did anyone else have a horrible time even getting this update installed?

First attempt: seemed like it went of but never gave the install complete message, even after an hour. System still reported as v5.8

Second attempt: different USB stick, started the install, then ran forever (usb light blinking, but system did nothing for an hour)

Third attempt: had to disconnect the battery to even get it to start as it would say 'installation in progress' when I even tried to do it......once again no dice

Fourth Attempt: Yet another different USB stick, had to disconnect the battery once again, however it somewhat worked this time....except the file it placed on the USB to confirm the install was corrupt, ford.owner.com site said unverified version installed. Car reports as V5.9, so I downloaded the version checker, ran it and got a good file fro reporting a successful install.

Seriously, it should not take all that just to get a F*&%ing update installed.:frusty:

I didn't even realize we could do software updates. Awesome. Just downloaded and will install once I get my car back from the shop. I'm such a geek I loaded it onto my R2-D2 flash drive.

Installed my 5.9 update on my 2015 Base PP GT. Installed it on flash drive that already contained a lot of files, car in ACC mode, and everything installed fine.

Heh -- I even bought a new phone. One week after I bought it while it was in absolutely box-stock trim running no apps other than Pandora and Pocket Casts, Sync ate shit again.

Sync's problems have been consistent for me across cars ('14 Fusion, '15 Mustang), phones (Galaxy Nexus, S4, S5, LG G4), Android versions (4.4.2, 5.1), and applications (Pocket Casts, Pandora, BeyondPod, Shuttle+).

What's the common thread?

Sync.

It fucking sucks.

I learned from my 13 Ford Edge with Sync/MFT to not update it. That one was a huge pile of crap. Bought a base GT/PP just to avoid the MFT. I will NOT update this car.
