I've had the Mustang mated Alpine PSU-300MTG Powered System (basically the Alpine KTP 445 Amp and Sub) with stock OEM speakers for a while.

Install was a tight squeeze but generally very happy with the added gains.

However, the audio clipping (certain volumes/notes) coming from the tweeters is getting to me. I've turned down the gains to min levels but the clipping and static is still there at certain volumes past half way on the volume.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? Do I need to add a capacitator to the stock tweeters / should I just disconnect it actually? Will just upgrading the door speakers and tweeters resolve it? I don't blast my music due to the clipping and static coming from the tweeters. It took me a while just to pin point it by adjusting the fade back and front to isolate which speakers were causing the issue.

Thanks in Advance.

Replace the OEM garbage. You'd be surprised at how cheap the OEM speakers are...just spend the money on a decent component set and you'll be much happier!

I would highly recommend to upgrade the interior speakers if they are connected to the amplifier. If they weren't connected to an after market amp, it would be fine since the factory radio amplifier would be sufficient.

The factory speakers are only able to handle about 25 watts give or take and it looks like the amplifier that you mentioned is 45 watts per channel.

Even with the gain all the way down, once you start turning up the volume, it's going to introduce clipping to the factory speakers.

Any after market speaker upgrade will definitely be a better match with the amp versus the stock speakers that are made of paper. An aftermarket speaker can handle much more power to handle the power being sent to them.

I personally went with the Infinity Kappa series and it's a night and day difference over the factory speakers.

Did you use Forscan to turn off the factory amp?

I’m using a similar setup and found it better to turn off the factory amp and set the Alpine to preamp.

I also changed out the speakers

If you're not pumping guru or competition levels of power, just upgrade the factory stuff. Powerbase makes an easy plug and play and they're very economical and surprisingly good speakers for how cheap they are. They're not going to win any awards, but bang/buck they're hard to beat. They can handle marginal increases in signal strength.

The Ford OE 6 speaker quality isn't just bad, it's horrific. No exaggeration, I don't think Ford could have sourced a cheaper or more junk speaker. Seriously. The rears on my car were literally crumbling and falling apart. It's as if some production manager at Ford told an intern "go and find me the absolute cheapest, lowest product you can possibly find."

It's like $150 to swap to powerbase. (with shipping and taxes). They're incredibly easy to install and they're meant to be direct replacement. Try that, if it doesn't resolve it you can start thinking about adding other physical components but it doesn't make much sense to be putting any more money into resolving factory speaker limitations. You're better off putting money toward bringing the system up to something respectable.

If your factory amp is distorting you are just amplifying that.

Forscan it before doing anything else

Thanks all! I put an order for the component power bass speakers with the tweeters in the a pillars.

Re. the factory amp and using forscan, the 6 speaker to my knowledge does not have any factory amp at all.

Yes you have a factory amp. If not you wouldn’t have any volume now. It’s inside the head unit
