Well about a month back I ordered an AWE axleback exhaust. My wife bought it for me and told me it was a Christmas gift, so I couldn’t open it till then:crying:

So while she was taking a nap on the couch today, I took a peek.... just couldn’t help
myself..... I know y’all would understand more than my wife would:)

I opened the box and the packaging was good, but what my biggest interest was the box holding the tips. My excuse is/was I want to ensure there was no damage to the tips.

Anyway the tips are beautiful. Very shiny, welds look good, the AWE raised logo looks very nice, Is eye catching, but subtle at the same time

If these mufflers sound as good as they look, I am sure I will be very pleased. Problem is my car is parked until probably April, so it’s gonna be a long wait. I hope it’s worth it

Oh yeah, I got a grape “Blow Pop” included. My favorite flavor :handsinair:

Wow that's great. Haven't seen someone package a blow pop with their exhaust before. If only it was sour apple....

I pick out what I want, buy it, and then tell my wife what she got me for Christmas. She doesn't understand after 23 years what I like for some reason, so I finally took the bull by the horns and handle it this way now. Several years ago I bought a clutch setup for my 13. When I told her what she bought me, she asked why I wanted that for Christmas. She somehow equated it to me giving her a toaster.....!! Count your blessing OP, your wife gets you things you want. I'd be careful about sticking my nose in the box though, that could put an end to it and you start getting underwear and socks real quick.

Derek you're a brave man, you'd have learned by now they can sleep with one eye open or notice the smallest thing out of place and know exactly what you've been up to. Even worse is they say nothing and let you think they haven't noticed! :bandit:

I've just fitted an AWE touring, if you like a good V8 noise and are intolerant of drone and rasp like me you'll be very happy. And it went onto the car like it was there in the first place.

Enjoy :like:

Thank you very much for the vote of confidence on the AWE. I had/have the CJPP unbranded axle backs now and the overall sound is good (maybe a tad loud), but there is drone at highway speed in sixth. I can tolerate it now, but maybe down the road it would become very annoying to me. My wife does not like the sound at all, So wadaya do?????:frown:

Did you do axles? or a full cat system? I would assume the cat system would be louder????

Thanx again for your thoughts....:like:

Mine is cat back so yes probably louder than the axle back, but it does include two good sized resonators so the difference might be minimal. It would be an interesting comparison as I don't believe the stock resonator is as evil as some claim in terms of impeding flow or noise particularly on a stockish car, it's straight through and importantly doesn't drone or rasp.

I certainly wouldn't call the cat back obtrusive but it barks when you get on the throttle and downshifting is mucho fun.

Where are the actual mufflers Derek? Post a pic of those when you can. The tips look quality, assume the mufflers also will.

I was gonna take pics of them, but my interest was the tips. The mufflers look great as well. If I can sneak another pic, and not get caught, I will. If not, I will post on Christmas day..... LOL

Cheers...:like:

The resonator flows fine but in terms of being a crossover it is not great, acoustically. The Borla resonator (resonated H pipe) or magnaflow resonated X-pipe have a nicer tone at about the same volume. I went from the stock resonator with a Corsa axleback to resonated X-pipe with the same axleback and there was a significant improvement in mid and high rpm tone. It was more aggressive sounding without adding any rasp.

Watch that the pipe is expanded enough to fit over the midpipe and be clamped, mine wasn't and AWE doesn't have a no hassle stand-by-what they sell guarantee...ended up getting it welded up and they imply the warranty could be voided...because exhaust components are welded all the time:surprised:

Interesting, I tried a resonated X (Magnaflow TruX, CJ Pony version) with the stock mufflers and noticed no real difference other than a bit more rasp. This was without the sound tube so there was no other noise to interfere. Had I not fitted the cat back I'd probably have put the stock res back on.

With louder mufflers the change is more obvious.
