I tested it in an EB auto. It will bounce off the rev limiter in Sport/Manual mode all day long. I assume the GT is the same.
I tried it yesterday and when I floored it, it kept revving and seemed like it wanted me to shift cuz it kind of jerked so I shifted cuz I didn't want to jack up the transmission. What gear did you red line in? 1st? I'm not sure how or when to shift..that's why I got an automatic lol

Are you sure you weren't already bouncing off the limiter? Because that's what it sounds like.

You probably shouldn't be shifting at the red line anyway. Optimal shift points are lower in the rev range. And bouncing off the limiter is like hitting an invisible wall. That'll slow you way down; that could be the jerk you felt.

For normal daily driving, you should be short shifting in that car. It makes peak torque at about 4000 rpm. No need to rev it to the moon unless you're on a lonely road or you crave the wrong kind of attention.

Your interested in hitting redline and upset you can't hit the rev limiter- why?

Most engines are losing power well before Redline...they have already hit top torque and HP before that point and are on the downward side of the graph-meaning your driving SLOWER then you could be....

Hitting redline/rev limiter is also stressing the engine and tranny a bit...the computer tracks it...lose an engine and Ford sees your constantly bouncing the engine off the rev limiter and they just may claim 'abuse" and deny a claim.

Auto, it's too risky getting smashed at a party and asking a friend who doesn't drive a manual to drive you and your car home.

No I wasn't upset about hitting the rev meter. I was just wondering if it was possible

In the end it all comes down to how you'd prefer to drive your vehicle. Reading posts about "manhood" or "enthusiast" or even stop and go traffic are meaningless because everyone enjoys driving in different ways, and yet others have only one option. In the end, when you're driving down the road with a huge smile across your face - because you will; this car is awesome - there won't be anyone next to you questioning your manhood for letting the car do the work or teasing you for doing the work yourself by grabbing a "phallic symbol".
i think the manhood and phallic symbol stuff came after i posted about how it's roughly 6 out of 10 forum members are car enthusiasts. that's when people got defensive about their manhood.

sure almost 100% of the forum members can be called mustang enthusiasts, but not car enthusiasts.

this being my first mustang, ive learned that the car is a lot more mainstream than my previous enthusiast cars, which i have learned to accept.

for example, back when i drove bimmers, the E39 M5 only came with a manual, so if you really wanted it, you would have to learn how to drive one. same with my last car, the WRX, however subaru did add an auto transmission (CVT) this year.

at least the WRX is now an option for my coworker. he wanted one a few years back, but they didnt offer it in auto, so he went with an audi A4.

That's... not what power peak means. You keep going faster as engine revs rise, regardless of whether you've passed your power peak or not. Electric motors make maximum torque at 0 rpm and go down from there; that doesn't mean that you hit top speed by not touching the throttle.

If you're in a car with a fuel cutoff at 6500 rpm that makes peak hp at 5000 rpm... you're still going to be going faster at 6500 rpm than you would at 5000 rpm, in the same gear. It'll just take you longer to get from 5000 to 6500 than it did to get you from 3500 to 5000.

The problem with your post was generalizing people as either car enthusiasts or non car enthusiasts based on their transmission. That's like saying you can only be a football fan if you play football. Plus there are other factors that go into a vehicle purchase besides being an "enthusiast" like physical limitations, multiple drivers, etc.. Which is what I was referring to when I said some only have one option.
