i think the manhood and phallic symbol stuff came after i posted about how it's roughly 6 out of 10 forum members are car enthusiasts. that's when people got defensive about their manhood.

sure almost 100% of the forum members can be called mustang enthusiasts, but not car enthusiasts.

this being my first mustang, ive learned that the car is a lot more mainstream than my previous enthusiast cars, which i have learned to accept.

for example, back when i drove bimmers, the E39 M5 only came with a manual, so if you really wanted it, you would have to learn how to drive one. same with my last car, the WRX, however subaru did add an auto transmission (CVT) this year.

at least the WRX is now an option for my coworker. he wanted one a few years back, but they didnt offer it in auto, so he went with an audi A4.
Not all car enthusiasts drive manual transmission cars. And not all manual-transmission drivers are car enthusiasts. One of the two people I know who've ever driven a manual couldn't care less about cars, and only got a manual car because it was cheaper. And I know LeMons racers and club rally racers (including myself, although I'm not a team owner) who don't know how to drive stick, but could in no way be deemed non-auto enthusiasts.

Also, the WRX has always been available with an automatic. It's just the STI that's been manual-only.

this is why this topic in a forum like this will never end and will always pop up. the poll speaks for itself, there will always be people who prefer or is forced to drive an auto.

yes jimmy, they've offered the WRX in auto long ago, but in the generation I had (2011-2014) it was only offered in a 5 speed manual.

Actually this question is really only a debate in the Mustang community. Most people who use a Mustang in competition do so on a drag strip. Of course there are other places to compete, but the majority will be drag racing. That's what the Mustang is known for. When Ford makes a better transmission than the 6R80 for drag racing, I will buy it. Auto, manual, hybrid hamster wheel, it doesn't matter. If you drag race your car and didn't get the 6R80 you must not be very serious about it.

And I also love the guys talking about men only driving manuals and shaking something that looks like a penis...

Auto, it's too risky getting smashed at a party and asking a friend who doesn't drive a manual to drive you and your car home.
Just don't take your mustang! You don't know what your friend might do!

LOL! I take Drag Racing very serious and have a manual car and would be very happy to line up side by side with an automatic ANYTIME. :D

If you take drag racing very serious you wouldn't have bought a manual. Period.

I haven't been to a drag strip in 30 years so what do I know. How many dragsters, funny cars, pro stock cars are running auto trannies? 100%-90%? I bet the only manual transmissions that run are in the stock class.

Never said that automatics are slow, but i do believe that plenty are saying automatics are faster than a manual and I myself have proven that is not true. But there again I run on a no prep surface so it's all up to the driver.
