Kudos to Autoblog for taking their time and not rushing a skimpy review out the door just to be first. And whoever thought of driving the old versions for comparison should get a nice bonus cheque - excellent move. A thorough and careful review that is very encouraging. And I totally agree with the comments about the cheesy look of the metal-sprayed plastic toggle switches!

Still, as someone commenting on Autoblog pointed out, they've followed the standard reviewer practice here of slamming the old version into the wall as soon as the new version comes out - suddenly it's virtually undriveable, when a year ago the negatives of having a live rear axle were hardly noticeable....

I'm glad to hear that the paddle shifters shift fast.

I want to read more comparisons to other similar vehicles. The 2014 is a good start and overall comments are what I expected to hear, which is to say a great leap forward.

This was a good article. It was great that they did their due diligence and did a full comparison with the outgoing car. That should help those out there trying to decide between a good deal on the S197 and getting a new S550.

Very good. This just shows me the only thing that went wrong was the people that handle how this car is being managed and marketed by the media and themselves. They didn't make sure that the reviewers had a proper basis for comparison and the drives happened way too close to the embargo review date. Most of them seemed very rushed. Praise for autoblog for putting in more effort than the ones right out the gate.

You know if this was out there on day one a lot of the naysayers wouldn't be so sour right now.

Another great review. Well done to them.

I love the comparison they were able to make with the '14.

It's very clear the PP is a no-brainer for the Performance types.

Had a question. I don't like the PP Wheels or the dash. If I wanted to get the same stiffer suspension they are talking about in these PP reviews of the EB/GT (to avoid that float they keep talking about), what parts would I need to purchase aftermarket?

Very flattering review.

I have a feeling if some people here would just DRIVE the car, most of their preconceived notions about how important 1/10 of a second or two here and there really is would fly out the window. Many of us have been too programmed to form our conclusions about the enjoyment factor of a car by looking at raw specs and stats or reading someone else's opinion. I'm as guilty of this as anyone at times, and this process has reminded me that seeing a car in person and driving it is simply the only reasonable way to judge it. Yet there are people here that I know are writing the car off without having done either. Unfortunate.
Yes, it is easy to get tunnel vision on 0-60 and 1/4. If all you do is drag race, then a tenth or two is a big deal. The live axle is always going to be lighter, cheaper, and better at putting down the power on a smooth drag strip. But on real world roads the IRS is a huge improvement for the vast majority of drivers.

I really don't think you want to do that. The cost of the PP is really low compared to what you get. Not to mention the labor it would cost to upgrade to it. WAY easier to just get new wheels and sell the stock ones.

If you don't plan to do any serious corner carving with it, you could probably get away with just swapping the springs and shocks to get a firmer ride.

But I agree with the previous poster; the value of the PP is pretty hard to beat.

Also, have you seen the PP dash in person? Perhaps your impression of it would change if you did...
