My car is at 65k miles, so I was going to replace the enginer air filter in it.

I have seen these two filters online as potential replacements:

Amazon K&N Air Filter

For K&N Air Filter

They seem to be same, but I wanted to make sure. I am gonig to order the one from Amazon since it will be cheaper.

The Amazon filter is a K&N. You do realize that those filters don't filter as well as a paper filter. You can see right through them. However I know K&N has sold tons.

The Ford one is also a K&N.

That is sold by Ford Performance. The stock Ford filter is not a K&N.

I know. But it's one that they recommend for the car. Is it worth getting over the Motorcraft one?

The oiled K&N will filter better than a dry aftermarket filter. The Ford paper filters are designed to filter the best, so there’s a little bit of sacrifice in air flow. The aftermarket filters will flow better but will give a little in filtering to do so. Is it a meaningful amount? I doubt it. You’re not going to get leaves and shit in your intake from an aftermarket filter.

I have a Green Filters filter in my car, works great. I’m about due to clean it, it has about 19k miles on it. That’s the nice thing about most of the aftermarket filters, you can wash and reuse them. I have a Ford paper filter and a Ford Performance K&N filter as backups.

Project Farm has a very good youtube video on this topic. The K&N was best at air flow and also worst at filtering. I personally will not use K&N on a passenger car. Ten thies the price of the filter and the oil when you wash it isn't cost effective. $16 for the wix that filters the best.

For racing engine that gets refreshed they are great.

Nonsense. They filter better than stock, with better air flow. They are designed with an oiled element, so that particles stick, and a circuitous path to ensure that a particle hits the medium. Geez!

You may want to get on Youtube and search air filter tests. There are many air filter tests that are well thought out. You will find that consistently the K&N does not filter as well as paper with proof. You can see the holes in the gauze material if you hold them up to the light.

Also if you get on "Bob is the Oil Guy" there's tons of more info on air filters. You can get a good education there.

SIr, I attained my deep knowledge of filtration technology through a long engineering career of filtering liquids and gases and air for sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing. If you've ever recieved a steroid shot or the COVID vaccine then you probably recieved water that was purified by filtration equipment that I helped to design and install. I don't need You-Tube.

You might find it interesting that the testing shows K&N filters allowing far more dirt to pass through than a decent paper filter. You obviously haven't read or watched any of the numerous testing of air filters that have gone on for years. You contradict everybody else's findings without proof. While numerous other people testing air filters including engineers have proof that you can see with your own eyes.

Hold a K&N air filter up to the light then hold a paper filter up to the light. See those big holes in the K&N that are far larger than anything in the paper filter?
