I have never tuned a car before, looking at the handheld units out there SCT's new GTX caught my eye. No computer needed to download and install tunes, I kind of like the idea of everything all in one unit, wifi connectivity, data logging, all in 1 device. It does look like you still need a computer to review the data logs, it does say you need to use LiveLink software to view. I've got a message in with SCT this morning to get some clarity of viewing the data logs.

I still need to decide on a tune, I understand not everyone utilizes SCT but it seems like there are plenty of good/reputable tuners who do. I have wheels on order, want to get the speedo adjusted first, re-learn the car with the lighter and wider wheels, then pick a tune.

Long story longer, has anyone used the SCT GTX? Do you still need a computer to review logs? Other feedback/thoughts?

FWIW I got a response back from SCT...

"Thank you for contacting sales,
Yes, datalogging can only be seen with livelink. Datalogging is not something that everyone does, typically only with custom tunes which is not what comes on the device. I do see how that contradicts the advertising a bit, but most custom tuners walk their customers through that kind of thing."

So it sounds like you can bypass a computer to download and load up tunes, but if you want to datalog and refine with your tuner you still need a laptop. Got rid of the computer on step one, but still need it for step two I guess.

Not sure if this is worth the extra money for what seems to be the same thing as the regular handheld tuner with a nice touchscreen. Anyone use this yet?

I know this is old but I’m looking at the device now. The question is, is the device snappier. Is it running off a better processor than the X4/BDX for example. If it is than to me aesthetically and technologically it might be worth it. Quite frankly Ngage is the best looking option but unfortunately SCT doesn’t use Ngage. Most real custom dynotuners (not email) from what I’ve seen use SCT and HP so there goes that option. And if you aren’t going to keep your hand devicee on display which realistically most people don’t the GTX probably isn’t worth the additional money. All is based on opinion of worth and comfort level visually of something in your face on the window dash.
