So after trying the ford COTUS site for a couple of weeks I finally get a hold of someone at eh dealership and ask what is going on. After two days she tells me yes, order is under way, and here is the VIN. I then entered that in to the (until then useless) COTUS, and low and behold, there is info on a car...that was already delivered two months ago! Not to mention it was a completely different set up than mine.

I called back and she said that perhaps that VIN was entered just to "save the space". This made no sense, so now I am wondering if these people know what they are doing. The screen shot she had sent me did have my name, the name of the salesperson, and the wrong VIN... I am going by the dealership this weekend to talk to a manager and see if I can get some hard evidence that my order is on track.

Has anyone had the same issue?

It's unlikely that your salesperson is the one that actually ordered the car, in the same way that they don't do your financing either. Dealers typically (in my experience) have a person or a few people who actually can order the cars.

If you know the dealer name and the order number (ask for your DORA - Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement) and give it to FordService on here and they can give you the right VIN for your order.

COTUS is not active for 2016 models at all, as far as I know.

Thanks, did not know about the DORA. All I have is a "Order Preview" with the specs I requested on the car and a price.

These people have not been very upfront with communication. I am ok with waiting, but would like to stay informed. You would think dealers would know this and have a procedure. You order a car, you get an email with steps, what to expect, etc. But here nothing...

Sounds like the shenanigans that a corrupt dealer that doesn't know their stuff does...and having lived in New Mexico for 8 years, I know there's more than a few corrupt car dealers there

When you place an order, ask for the DORA sheet. If you're dealer can't provide that, at least get the order number, and Deysha FordService can get you the VIN from that when it gets generated

Hello ZuluEcho,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your order! PM me with the date you placed your order, the dealership’s name, and some of the main options (color, GT/vert, etc.) and I’ll check on it for you.

Also, COTUS was a tracking site that is still in a pilot phase and has not been rolled out for all regions or vehicle nameplate. It hasn’t work for any 2016MY. I am working on getting those links removed.

Not since 1996 when I bought my first new Mustang. I drove the car for two days and the dealer called me back and said they sold me the wrong car. The car was the same color with the same options just the wrong VIN that was on my paper work.
