While finishing detailing my car, I found perforating corrosion in the channel under the trunk lid where water passes through.

The aluminum hood/trunk lid problem I get. This I just don't. Has anyone had this happen??

No! that is where the water collects and at the base of the rear window channel. Every time you wash it or it rains. Always wipe this section down and your problem is solved. Also wipe down the door jambs and bottom of the doors. Hope this helps. If you already have rust, sand it out, primer and paint the area. Nothing fancy just remove the surface rust you will never see this unless you leave it continue.

Even if water is laying in that location, for a short period of time (car washing) or longer period of time (car sitting outside in elements, week long rain storms, snow storms, etc) - there is absolutely no reason why that area would start bubbling.

It’s hard to tell from the pic, is the paint bubbled upward (like say a rust/cancer spot) or is the defect like a divot in the paint as if debris was laying on the panel and was painted over? To me and based on your single pic, it looks like it’s possible there was either poor prepping before paint or there was debris in that channel when it was robotically sprayed. There’s no weld there or seam sealer, so that can be ruled out. Also to note, that area is part of the rear 1/4 panel, so again, it’s not like the hood where there are (2) pieces of different metals meeting each other.

Regardless of the “why” it’s like that, it’s not normal and I would take it to your Dealer and have them check it out; to me that is definitley a warrantable concern.

I always have water pool inside that area, after I wash the car I dry it out, but I've been thinking of adding a coat or two of wax for some extra protection. I haven't had any rust issues yet, but I'll have to look more closely. I do have a few spots in my door jams that I'm hoping is not rust.
