So I have looked around this section and noticed all the amazing things you guys are doing with the audio components and especially updating the Head Unit with that Chinese TomTop thing..lol. What I am curious about and can't seem to find in these threads is any actual company making direct aftermarket units for our cars especially the base ones like mine to make them more like the premium units or even better than the premium units? Wheres Sony, Pioneer, JVC, and other companies?? Why must we buy some Chinese stuff that we then have to modify and get creative with wiring and stuff? Whats the deal? Does anyone know?

The complexity and integration of modern infotainment systems makes aftermarket kits much more difficult for companies to make kits for. In the past most Ford/GM/Chrysler/various imports generally used standard size radios in DIN, Double-DIN, or DIN-and-a-half sizes where it was easier to make a few kits for a lot of applications; not to mention head units were a lot less 'connected' back then. These days, many head units are bespoke to the model of car, which make R&D of aftermarket kits hugely expensive.

I'm not offering opinion one way or another on this approach, but just offering an explanation why it's so hard to find aftermarket head unit kits for new cars these days.

So do you think they will begin showing up? Guessing all the new Fords come with a this type of head unit, probably plenty of other manufacturers too. I would only think it will become the norm for major manufacturers like mentioned above to target all the new cars instead of dying a slow death with only making single din type decks. I haven't had a new car in quite a while, first with an LCD. What's your guess are the companies like pioneer, Sony and others going to start showing up with stuff and how long do you think it will take, if ever? Anyone have a previous new car and have to wait for the new head unit to come out?

To the OP, sorry to poke into your thread, just was also caught off guard when I selected the Base model knowing I wanted to completely redo the stereo. Figured it would be as easy as my Jeep by adding a $139 Pioneer that had every feature I could use.
