Inflation and raising prices really sucks. The window sticker on my 2003 Mach1 was just under 30K. Now a loaded GT can be 2x's that. A Terminator was about 36K. I imagine this means a new GT500 will be about 70-75K before markups.
I wouldn't blame it on inflation per se. Throwing $30,000/2003 into the BLS inflation calculator spits out $40,536 today.

I can see where some will have a lot more difficulty with this than others (differences in physique, seat position preferences, and general awareness of surrounding traffic). For me on a fairly recent drive in a 1SS (very brief, but pretty brisk in places) the encroachment on outward visibility was not nearly as bad as the impression you might get from various gallery pictures . . . really not enough worse than it is in my '08 GT to matter. Outward visibility in either isn't nearly as good as it was in, say, the '95 626 that we used to own - but going from a conventional FWD sedan to a ponycar that's to be expected. As easy as it was to drive, the one thing I didn't care for was the steering feel of its EPAS in 'Track Mode'. Heavy like the 'feel' is being synthesized by having too much friction in the system rather than needing a little extra effort because the steering geometry and alignment specs were performance-oriented.

I think you are right on about the visibility. It's really more of a "feel" than an actual visibility problem, which for sales is a big problem. Most people are going to get a negative impression the first time they hop in a Camaro. It "feels" like you can't see out of those slits on the side, but most of your restricted visibility is up and down, not to the side (where you need to see).

Unfortunately for GM sales, first impressions sell cars (or not, as the case may be).

I took a long test drive in a 2SS and my neck was killing me, not from the torque but from trying to see around the a-pillar.

If you start with that same $30k purchase price but make it early 2008, even that $40.5k would be significantly outpacing inflation.

Maybe you should move to Australia!!

You think 60K is a rip off for a fully optioned mustang??

I paid just under 50K USD for mine and had to wait 12 months for it and its a 2017 model.

To Give you and Idea about cars and what they cost here in Australia

2017 Mustang GT PP $50K No base model this is it and you go higher from here for the convertible model

Chevy SS Basic Model $47K

Basic C Class Mercedes $51K

C63 AMG - 141K

BMW M3 - 140K

Porsche 911 GT - 188K

Camaro SS - 70K (Due to RHD Conversion)

Corvette C7 - 180K (Due to RHD Conversion)

Dodge Challenger Hellcat - 109K (Due to RHD Conversion)

I think 60K for a fully Loaded mustang is not that bad haha I would not be complaining!! Also at least you also get a choice not to fully load it unlike here! :frusty:

Compare what you paid for your 2017 Mustang against what you'd be paying for its 2018 refresh.

How much more than $50k are you looking at?

Hi Norm

No pricing for the 2018 but I think it will be a bit dearer than the 17 model

In Canada the price has hardly gone up, perhaps Ford are just milking you US citizens?
Y'know, that might not be completely outside the realm of possibility . . .
