I have been chasing an intermittent and now constant lit airbag light. The code associated with the light is B1404:13:8B (Driver side airbag deployment control). I have a 2021 mustang GT premium with heated and cooled seats. I have read that it could be a broken wire under the driver's seat. I removed the seat and could not find anything out of the ordinary with any plug or wire. Also checked for any software updates and all modules are up to date. My battery is new and the BMS was reset so I know it's not a voltage issue. Has anyone had this light come on before? I'm hoping to be able to find it myself without the dealership tearing my car apart looking for the problem.

Isn't this still under warranty? Unless you've modified something, probably best to let the dealer do it. I recommend not telling them you already removed the seat and tried to diagnose it yourself.

It may be under warranty, but I'm not thrilled about someone tearing my car apart looking for said problem. So instead, I came here asking if anyone else has had this issue and if so, what was it? This platform is more than 10 years old. Surely someone else has encountered this. If I decide to take it to the dealer that's my last choice. Thanks for the useful input much appreciated

Are all of your buttons on the steering wheel and horn working? If not, you may have a clock spring issue. I caution you about digging too deep into this yourself. If it does need to eventually go to the dealer and they see that you have "tinkered" with it already, they may refuse to warranty anything. If the airbag needs to be replaced it a costly part. $622.52 to $989.75 depending on your options.

If you intend to mess with the SRS system at all you need to disconnect the battery and be sure the electrical system has discharged. Otherwise you may find that you accidentially activate an airbag. They can be very sensitive.

Yes, all of my buttons are working. Im almost certain its a wiring issue under drivers seat. If I move the seat around the light comes and goes. I had the light go out and cleared the DTC with FDRS and it stayed out untill I moved the seat. I disabled easy entry exit seating and as soon as I adjusted the seat the light came on. Im scratching my head because I checked all the plugs and wires. All the pins in the connectors are also fine.

Have you checked the seatbelt buckle? if there's any dirt or gunk inside the buckle it can cause the system to think the belt is not connected.

I have not. Would it be wise to use computer duster to try to blow it out?

That could work. There's a micro-switch in there that tells the BCM/SRSM when if the belt is connected or not. Probably a long shot but won't take much to check.

Similar thing happened to my 2018 GT. I went to the dealer and they found it was the clock spring in the steering wheel. It was only 3 years old at the time so got fixed under warranty.

Okay thank you Brother. I sprayed duster into driver's side seat buckle and the light shut off as I was spraying it. I cleared stored code and all seems to be well. Key cycled a bunch and a few rides and no airbag light. Never in a million years would that have been where I thought to check. I'm relieved that I didn't have to go to the dealer for this problem. Another win for this forum. Thanks for everyone that contributed.

That's awesome. Keep it simple.
I'll have to remember that one.
