Only option not on my car is Enhanced Security. Thinking of installing something a grade above standard security stuff. I can't seem to find much info on which system works without causing problems with the standard alarm.

Anyone offer some tips here on a system- Viper, Avital, Clifford??

Viper is the go-to in aftermarket alarms. Had one in my Acura for the past 8 years and its still doing well. Then again the quality of the installation is important as well. Do not settle for a shop that uses wire taps for all the connections. Soldering is the proper way of doing things...

Ill agree with KevinG Install is everything. Find an authorized installed though Directed's website, the investment a shop makes to not have a middle man distributor with Directed is huge money so its not a line they want to lose with shotty workmanship. Ask for proof of work and pics of previous installs, or even to view a car currently in the shop. No good installer will hide his work from a potential client. Al & Eds is probably going to be your best bet in the greater LA area.

Viper, Avital, and Clifford are all great options made by DEI (Directed Electronics INC.). All will work well! Clifford will have the latest and greatest features as it is their flagship line. The parent company DEI only focused on security for the longest time so they know their stuff.

Avital at one time was a premium brand bested only by Clifford but now I believe is their entry level line. My car has the Avital Model 3001. I chose this because it uses the OEM keyfob or door sensor opposed to a separate fob (I believe this model is discontinued now). All current models are the exact same as the same level Viper without the add-ons such as smart start or cell phone integration.

Viper is the #1 selling alarm on the market, and will have the most offerings available. The higher end models are the same as the lower end Cliffords.

The Clifford line will get you the latest and greatest technology for automotive security.

You cant go wrong with any of the options, To narrow your search I would just stick to the Viper line. The features are there, they have the most options available to suit anyone's needs. The Current Viper systems are re runs of the previous generation Clifford G4 series.

What matters most to you

Cheaper cost, and less theft deterrence - Avital
Middle of the road, good balance between cost and features - Viper
Best security, latest features highest price - Clifford

Is your car auto or manual? If its an auto its easy to add an aftermarket alarm and control it from the factory keyfob

Thank you guys, very helpful. In the back of my mind, I worry about negative impact on the factory perimeter alarm or autostart. I guess it comes back around to selecting the proper installer.

Did the OP finally install the after market alarm? If yes which one you choose and did you loose any feature of the factory alarm?
