So I purchased my mustang in November after a couple months of college I said “you know what? A hellcat is not a great idea to DD to college. A lot of turning off and on going home and back as well as the stupid speed bumps”. So I went and did some looking around and saw a new 2018 black 5.0 on clearance at my local Ford dealership. Couple hours later I drove off in a new mustang. I absolutely fell in love with the looks and the A10. However, my biggest hate about mustangs are the shared looks from the eco boost to the 5.0. Almost Everything cosmetically is shared except for the rims. At least with Dodge the hoods are different and bumpers and decals and options, but I’m not here to get into a war about who’s better. So I put a new cervinis ram air hood, borla atak, 12 inch sub, and eibach lowering springs. Love the look and I’m always getting compliments but I’m not pleased I want to get a new front bumper, spoiler, and super snake rims with wider tires. I want ARH LTH and a roush power pack CAI (my local dealership is roush certified so it’s easier for me) so for you LTH and CAI owners what’s the mileage like? (I’ve read you won’t see a significant difference if tuned properly) Is the drone bearable? (I have some sound deadener from the sub install which made a huge difference even with the stock exhaust however I know I won’t lose the sound 100%) Catted or catless headers? If catless how is the smell? (I’ve read if tuned properly you’ll get little to no smell and if anything it’ll smell more like an old school muscle car) lastly, has anyone had issues long term with the LTH? I’m talking after many months of DD. My ‘79 F150 with a 460 which is my show truck has headers but it’s carbureted and nowadays these computers are real picky and anything just a little off will piss the little bastards off. So I’m just a little worried about that. The service advisors have already told me my warranty for powertrain would be done but if something went wrong they’d work with me to solve the problem. However if I break down somewhere else and take it to a different service shop they’ll flag the car and won’t help me out period. Sorry if I ranted a bit but I just want my concerns answered by people that have similar set ups. Thanks in advance. The local dealership will be doing the install and tuning since I know they do multiple 1000+ HP builds. When I bought my mustang they introduced me to the service advisors and showed me a build they were putting twin turbos on. I would get E85 but not a single gas station has it! Cons of living in the ass crack of nowhere in a college town. Sorry if I ranted a bit but I just want my concerns answered by people that have similar set ups and know what they are talking about. Thanks in advance.

Skip the Redneck Special and do catted.

I hate catless setups. They smell, trip all kinds of sensors causing dash lights to come on, and are a PITA in general.

I had borla ataks and catted long tubes. No drone but my god was it insanely loud. I ended up putting in the borla resonator and then it was too quiet... then I went catless and it made it about perfect.
If you have the borla active setup it will be better obviously but if not cold starts are wake the dead loud.
I didn’t notice much smell from being catless. I’ve had 5 cars with a catless setup so either I got used to it or it’s not bad.
if your tuned properly long tubes won’t have any negatives.

True to an extent, wrong, and wrong. If you're getting headers without a tune, you're wasting a lot of money for noise.

I have both catted and catless lead pipes. Currently running catless and I like it with my current setup. Catted is great if you have any kind of visual inspection or the smell of exhaust bothers you. I usually run E85 so I'm not bothered by it at all. Even with 93 octane, it wasn't bad. I don't go places smelling like fuel nor do I have black soot building up on my tailpipes.

Get a good quality catback that's not extremely loud with stock headers and you'll be fine. The mistake 99% of people make is getting something like a Corsa Extreme then get headers afterwards and realize how awful sounding it is with all that rasp.

Wires getting burned up that you have to chase down, 02 sensor issues constantly, state inspection problems......yeah no PITA there at all.

If you think a good catback prevents the smell of fumes from a catless exhaust setup, you may want to get your sense of smell tested. No offense, but you can ALWAYS tell if someone is running catless because whether they run it on gas, E85, or Jesus Juice it smells.

Advice and opinions are always good to give, but let's not fool anyone into thinking any catless setup is not going to smell like fumes.

If your having wires burning up and are throwing codes I suggest you change your shop and or tuner. If your state does not do inspection... no problem there.

Someone giving advice while running stock headers on a catless or catted long tube header thread is a bit comical.

Wires burning up? What the hell or who the hell is installing your headers? That's not even a thing unless you have some kind of redneck wiring going on. O2 sensors can be affected regardless of catted or catless because it's the primary O2 that usually goes out quicker, not the secondary ones that measure catalyst efficiency.

I never said a "good catback" reduces the smell. I said the smell is not as bad as people think from past cars where people could smell fuel in the cabin and the smell stuck to your clothes. These engines burn cleaner overall without the cats compared to those engines of the past. The comment I made about catbacks is in regards to not sounding like ass.

Open foot, insert mouth there bud. I own a speed shop and work on these installs all day.

Whatever, OP can do what he wants. But look for a "Need help passing inspection with LT's" thread in the near future.

You're a real piece of work for not even being able to approach a conversation with any civility. Someone like you giving advice to anyone is comical to me, so how's that.

Remind me not to go to your speed shop if you're burning up O2 sensor wires... lol

Passing inspection is easy... It's called disable the emissions system. It's no secret in Texas.

Good day to you.

Even the best shops make mistakes. Wiring points work their way loose, etc. It happens and can be a PITA to chase down. I have to correct a bunch of LT installs all the time where the original installation was good, but over time things have started to move around and now something is rubbing where it shouldn't be, etc.

If you are lucky enough to not have to worry about inspection, it's probably worth doing. Texas does a visual (not really...I don't think half of them know what they are looking at and they never go under the car anyway) and emissions, which is where the trouble comes in.

Also, it is illegal to remove your catalytic converter and you can get hit with a fine of up to $10k for doing it. People do it all the time, just a risk you run.

See my above post. I correct previous installations all the time.

Trust me, I can spot someone with your attitude a mile away. I wouldn't go near your car with a 500 foot pole. You're the kind who thinks he can do it better on jack stands in his driveway anyway, so have at it.

Disable the emissions system. Have you had an inspection lately? Texas gives you ONE system to show not ready, but that's it.

So tell me genius, when they hook your car up to the OBD-II system and your 02 sensors are shut off (1 not ready), which causes your other systems to also show not ready, what exactly are you going to do?

Like I said, terrible advice. But whatever.

You're absolutely right. I did 99% of my installs in my own garage on jack stands. The 1% was a header install I paid a real professional to install since it's a pain. Could I have done it? Absolutely. Did I want to do it? No.

Guess what, my car runs perfect and I didn't pay your ass a dime.

Like I said, no way I'd touch your car anyway jack stand hero.

Also, seems like the poll is currently swinging against catless as well. Hmmm...

Well, this jack stand hero at least knows how to pass inspection unlike you, lol. Keep going.
