Access Port

I am thinking about switching to the Access Port for tuning. Adam's numbers he is getting on a stock turbo are insane. I am also using a lot of his parts too. I also like the idea of switching programs. Makes me remember my APR tuned GTI. My question is do you have to hook up a battery tender to "marry" the tuner to the car?

I was concerned about my battery dying in the middle of the flash. Not trying to lock my car up.

i sat in the car with the radio playing. I have a listening problem but i never had problems changing tunes in past cars with the ap so i didn't worry too much about this one. Cobb is amazing.

Yeah no worries at all. Like others it took me about 15 mins too if that. Cobb recommends a battery charger just to cover themselves. Unless you have a really weak battery which on a new car you don't you'll be fine

As long as your battery has over 12v charge before you start the process I wouldn't worry about it. Turn off all sources of power drain (radio, lights, fan, etc) to make sure the only drain will be the ECM and the OBD2 port.

You don't have to hook up a battery to flash, or unmarry. That is put there to cover their ass if you brick your ECU. I have never had a problem with this in my many years of using the Accessport. Just a tip, don't flash your car with a dead battery haha!

The way i see it, hooking up a charger is cheap insurance against having any type of low voltage that can cause a failure during a write cycle.

I dont know the particular health of anyones battery, and with that in mind i advise that everyone practice good flashing habits.

During some flash cycles, for particular chassis, waterpumps, lighting, ac units, etc. activate. These motors and devices can quickly drain your battery and leave you with a bricked ecu.

You know the health of your battery best, so use your best judgement and assume all responsibility while flashing your car.

I dont view the disclaimer as a CYA from cobb. It is intelligent advice from a product developer that knows this important role voltage plays in the ecus operation; especially when writing to to the ROM.
