My shifter has always had the north/south slop, but I noticed the other day I have some side to side movement (maybe 1/32 or a hair more) while in gear. The car has 4,500 miles on it and wondering if I should investigate this....

1/32 and you consider that slop

Bro, the whole term "shifter like a bolt-action rifle" is only a saying you know that right? haha you aren't going to get it to be perfectly rigid in gear

If it worsens considerably I would get a dealer to look at it, but as of right now it certainly doesnt seem like an issue.

I do consider it slop because it wasn't there 20 miles ago. I recently took my car in and it was taken on a joy ride....that's another story but I noticed the slack afterwards. This made me think that maybe there was a nylon spacer/washer that got broken.

Sorry to hear man, I've had the same thing happen when I had my WRX... young prick took my car and burn't over a 1/4 tank of fuel in less than 30 miles.... I lost it lol never trust dealers.

But in all honesty, have you looked at a tape measure to see how little 1/32 is? I guarantee you that if something broke, or something went wrong from the joy ride, you would see more issues than that. I would say that almost certainly what is happening is that you are far more aware of tiny things and more, dare I say, paranoid by small "issues" that you think may be there now that you simply wouldn't have noticed before.

1/32" is an incredibly small amount, and no human will discern that as being "oh hell that's much different than before". Chances are it was always like it, but as I said you might not have noticed before. I went through the same thing after my WRX got taken, I was paying attention and worried by every little sound or motion thinking that something had been damaged.

But I can tell you now that my R does not have a shifter that has 0 movement when in gear.. I don't know if even the MGW shifters might provide tolerances that tight. I honestly think you don't have an issue, and probably are overthinking it. It's natural, deep breaths :D

More than likely that is what is it is man, 1/32 definitely isn't something to worry about.

And yeah I hear ya man, I hope you gave the dealership massive shit for that. The guy who took mine got fired on the spot, I wanted to knock the kids lights out lol just shitty cause now you have to worry about if they'll repair it to your satisfaction.

I always make sure now to inform any dealerships that the car isn't to be road tested without me in the vehicle. I will probably be requesting to oversee any services that I have done on my R, I just don't trust anyone else to work on it, but unfortunately we need to have it done for warranty sake :-/

I gave them half my mind and going to give them the other half after I'm satisfied with the repairs. The sad part is it initially went in for an oil leak that's still not repaired. I'm very hesitant to send it back to service without me standing there.

Jesus man you're having a rough go of it eh. Any other reputable dealers in your area that could do the work regarding the leak?? I would be very hesitant as well honestly, they broke your trust already, hard to come back from a joyride where your car gets damaged

No joke, it's ridiculous for sure that something so simple has turned into a big deal. I do have another dealer only 30 minutes away that I could take it to. However, they are pretty quick to throw out the "did you buy it here line" lol. In the next few weeks I am about to install kooks and a tune, so I was trying to get all this done first......

Ugh, that attitude is gross as well. I never had any issues when trying to get service at my single local dealership (bought my R in another province), so hopefully won't have any issues in the future.

Definitely want to get that done before any mods, lord knows they'll try to blame it on everything and anything if it gets them out of having to do warranty work.

I took mine to a dealer and ended up with 2 dents in the car and bumper was not fixed as I had asked. I took it back and the bumper on my '17 Shelby was removed, repainted, and re-installed such that the issues with the bumper deformations and panel alignment were resolved about as well as I could expect. In addition, the two dents the car received while the car was with the dealer were pulled out with paint-less dent repair and I couldn't be happier with that repair.

When I got home, I started checking the way the bumper was re-attached to the car, to be sure that the job was done correctly. I got under the car and saw two bolts sticking out that support the rear aerodynamic piece that extends from the bumper toward the differential. Both these bolts were so loose that I could twist them out by hand. Looking closely, I could see the whole aero piece was loose and rattling because of two more loose bolts and I ended up having to drive back to the dealer to get the car up on a lift so that the remaining two bolts on the differential side of the piece could be screwed in. They were also finger tight and about an inch loose. If I hadn't caught that mistake, all four bolts would have dropped out and the panel would very likely have dropped off of the car, maybe on the highway, and that would very likely have caused a traffic accident.

When I delivered my car to the dealer for body work, I took a picture of the odometer and it read 1180.0 miles. When I picked the car up two days later the odometer read 1183.1 miles. So for body work, somebody drove my car 3 miles. This makes me wonder what the heck somebody needed to drive my car for at all.

I don't understand people doing a halfassed job like that. Obviously no pride taken there which is sad. They also fixed my rear bumper gap and actually used the "sheet metal screw method" I sent them off this site. I've yet to see the car, but the manager said it looked good so we shall see.

Does the GT350 come with MyKey? In addition to that, get a rear dash cam and a GPS for next time you take the car in. Hard wire the dash cam and they won't be able to unplug it without crawling into the back seat. And if they do that, it will be conspicuous. The GPS devices can send alerts, such as geo-fence. If the car leaves an area of say 1-3 mile radius or exceeds a certain speed, it will send you a text / email.
