AC Compressor died 2016 7600 miles!

So my compressor went the other day with 7600 miles. No idea why. Was driving for about a minute when I turned it on. 83 degrees outside. Suddenly heard a loud screeching sound followed by some loud whirring coming through the vents as well as some clunking. I turned the AC off in which the sound went away. I turned it back on a minute or so after to see if it was a fluke or not, which I then smelled burning and the AC quickly turned hot, which I then turned off and kept off.

Dealer said compressor.

Well this is promising. Seems like the ac compressor is going to be a common issue. I know a few people that had theirs go out, even on the previous body style. Ive been reading a lot of issues these cars are having, hope I didn't make a mistake by buying one. First new ford ive ever bought.

Mine went out on an early 2015 that had less than 50 miles. Was fixed fairly quickly, but that was issue #1 with me.

Mine has been okay so far at 2000 miles.

I do love the car, and I'm probably going to get a lot of hate on the forums because of the following statement, haha, but I'm strongly considering trading it in for a 16 Civic Sedan. If I end up keeping it I'll probably get an ESP warranty, but since I have a 2 and 4 year old, if I don't take a huge hit, I might just change it up and get something that should be reliable. My wife's car is a 15 Corolla and we have no issues with that one. I owe $22,800 on the stang, and it should trade in for around $19k I believe.

Probably jumping the gun but my car has been hexed since day 1 lmfao, with the dealers contractors scratching and thus replacing my rear windows when they installed tint, then I got a dent on the door that needed repair, then I got the bumper partially pulled off from faulty engineering at a McDonalds parking space (which they are covering), and now the compressor. All within a few months of ownership haha.

Here's a fun fact. The manufacturer of the AC compressor makes them for other car manufacturers as well!

They sure do for cars, trucks, gen packs to construction equipment. Most also use same internal parts different cases depending on OE

It's covered for 36k miles. It went before 8k miles. I just don't want to have to pay for these types of things if reliability is a concern. Perhaps it's just a fluke.

Doesn't mean car is going bad or is going to cost you more later on. As long as they try to keep it clean best as possible. There are a few if they have something go wrong with there vehicle they off the deep end condemn it as bad. Like thread about holes in bumper for the plate.

I should note - I've numerous issues with my car, mostly minor or at least a somewhat quick fix.

I'm not considering trading it, or worried that it's unreliable. My compressor was obviously faulty from the factory (didn't notice because it was cool outside when I inspected and picked it up) and has been rock solid since.

I too am worried about long term reliability. The new Civic is nice, but at least wait for the SI and get one of those if that's the route you're going. I've considered trading for something else, but the car depreciated too much for me to want to do that right now.

My car hasn't depreciated nearly as much as I expected. I was offered 20,500 in trade, and that is with a broken bumper cover, broken valance, broken radiator support, and dent. I paid just over 21k before fees/taxes/reg so I'm suprised how much trade value is. He said in excellent condition he'd give me 23k. I don't really understand how or why but I wasn't about to argue haha.

I didn't like the interior of the civic at all, and wasn't impressed with driving it. Going to keep the Mustang, fix it up, get it covered under warranty for the AC on Wednesday, and throw some Mechanical Breakdown Insurance via Geico on it for $6/month (basically bumper to bumper for 100k miles) with $250/ded.

If you consider an aftermarket installer "scratching" your rear windows, a dent in the door, and damage caused from a parking lot entrance to be a manufacturing issue, then you need a reality check son. A failed A/C compressor can happen to ANY vehicle, as 347CobraII mentioned, most manufacturers use systems that are made by the same supplier.

You're essentially saying that if you went to the casino and you won and your wife didn't, there's something wrong with her. It's ridiculous.

A Corolla and/or Civic is a pile of shit for people who don't care about owning a vehicle or driving in general. They have just as many issues as any other car, and often more because they are cheaply built pieces of shit. If you are willing to trade a Mustang for a Civic, then that speaks volumes about your character and your knowledge of vehicles.

I said I felt the car was tainted/hexed, and then followed up with I was keeping the mustang. Reading is hard. Your incredibly rude post speaks volumes to your character and insecurities.
