So I collected my new S550 Shadow Edition on Friday and all seemed OK until I got home and prepared for my drive to Norfolk for the weekend. The car was getting a bit warm so I popped the temp down to 17C thinking a chilly blast will help. What I got was a rush of warm air. It was warmer than outside! Stuck it on full AC to chill and it just stayed warm.

Rang the dealer who said that AC had been checked during PDI but would follow up and after yesterday it appears it had been and maybe I just got unlucky.

Anyway car went into local FordStore (Not purchasing dealer) and they have diagnosed that it is not a lack of gas as I suspected but the compressor is dead and needs replacing.

I see a few grumblings about this on forums etc but wondered is it a big job to switch? Dealer have ordered part (Maybe a couple of weeks) and have said they will book it in but frankly I am not overly impressed if it is going to require a huge amount of work and panel/dash removal but being compressor I assume it is in the engine bay.

Not the best start to living with my 2nd Mustang but I guess these things happen. I'm just gutted I had problems with <100 miles on the clock and its going to need to go in for work already.

chances are the selling dealer didn't bother pdi-ing it properly they can never be arsed so they just send a minion to tick box it, its the compressor its common and its a warranty job
i believe there's a how to in the diy section sure i read it there once its not a massive job just need a regas and oil afterwards

Very surprised its the compressor, you should be able to see it running. Its got like a clutch pully that kicks in when required. You can hear it too.
The dash only comes out when its the Evaporator core.

It's not that big of a job. I removed it when i was doing my header install. I think its like 3 bolts...but i did have all the machinery to remove the freon and refill it after re-installation.

That makes me a little less worried if its just a simple bolt out/in job for a new one. Refilling the gas is the dealers issue so that doesn't worry me. I may go have a look under the hood with the engine running and see if I can see it engage.

I am hoping its not the evaporator as frankly I don't want the dash removed on a 1 week old car.

Thinking about the fault I am also assuming the same compressor would work the seat cooling as that wasn't very effective either and I am sure I remember the last one being better (but not awesome).
