I have been using 91 octane for a while now, get good millage and good perf. with my active exhaust set to normal. Well last week i filled up with 93 octane for the hell of it and low and behold the exhaust sound went DOWN. Really the exhaust is much quieter at startup but during driving also. Anyone else notice this or am i dreaming.

I have an aftermarket and don't notice any difference in sound. I only notice a little bit of reduced giddyup going down to 91.

Only kidding, if you hear it that’s all that matters.

If you had an ecoboost you might feel the difference. I would imagine it would be really hard to hear a difference. In the 5.0, any difference would be only seen on a dyno and maybe heard with a decibel meter. Both would be slight.

It depends. I've heard GTs and v6s sound completely different from 87 to 91 octane. Usually better with higher octane

it could be caused by the tune-able exhaust option on the car. I was just curious.. thank for the help guys..

Or you're just at a lower idle because the car has been warmed up as opposed to on a cold start when the idle would be higher and, subsequently, louder...

way to much what ifs.. Just accept the anomaly as real or perceived or not, does not matter. I was just interested to see if anyone else had a similar experience. If not so be it.
The startups were both in the morning..

It's very possible that there are differences in your tune between regular 87 octane tune, 91 octane tune, and 93 octane tune if you have all 3. For example, your cold start is turned down or off via a tune on your 91, but your 93 tune doesn't have this. Too many variables here.

A car won't all of a sudden make more noise because of octane number. That's silly. There's something in your tune that's causing this.
