Hey guys 2018 GT PP1 A10. Looking for some feedback. I’ve asked a couple of people this question, but just wanting to see some real life results. My car is currently in the shop getting put together. I’ll be roughly at 900 WHP maybe up to 1k. I was planning on doing the steels and plates for the transmission. From what I was told the 3.55’s should be okay after that. However, am I still at a disadvantage if I just don’t go ahead and also swap to a 3.15 differential? I’d assume 7th will be fine, but if I’m still at a disadvantage with the lower gears then I’d probably go ahead and get that swapped out as well. I’ll be on a 305/45/17 tire. I know a few are running a 50 to keep from going into 7th. Looking for people that maybe have first hand experience with 3.55’s around that power and someone that maybe has the steels and plates installed.

What exactly do you mean by disadvantaged? Im not at the power level you mention. But the 3.55s in my car work fine.

Seems like most people at this power level are trying to avoid 7th to keep from blowing up the transmission. Basically just trying to see if everyone that’s doing the clutches is swapping their diff to the 3.15’s and if not how are those with a 3.55 differential holding up in 7th with the upgraded trans parts?

Ok im a drag racer. And never hit 7th gear. What type of event. Are you going to use 7th gear?

1/4 mile drag strip. I believe a 3.55 would top sixth out at 140 or so. I think 3.15 would make that 150’ish so that’s what I’m needing. What are you trapping?

At 900+ whp he'll trap around 150. 6th gear in the 10r80 is 1.27:1 and with the 3.55's and a 28" tire, he'll be close to 8200 rpm at that speed in 6th requiring the need for shifting into 7th.

OP just swap to 3.15's and call it done. Saves a shift at the strip, will be easier on the trans, and will keep the car from nosing over once you shift into 7th (1:1).

I don't expect to trap more than 142 in my car. While the numbers above ad up that gimmie quoted. Id be curious to see if changing gears would cost you on the sixty. And would you cross the finish line lower in your power band with the 3.15s. Costing you time. On the top end also? It'll surely be easier on the trans with the 3.15s over the long haul.

With a 45 tire, I would switch to 3.15. 90% of the 8 or low 9 sec cars are running them. You can probably get by with the 315/50, but do not lower your car. I’m running BMR drag springs and tried the 50 on 17X10 Welds. It was way too close to the fender. I’m running 305/45 as well, have power for low 9’s. 3.15, converter and steels/clutches are in my future. Like gimmie said, the car falls on its face when it hits 7th

I have worked on this for last 7 cars we have built. On a 10 speed the 3.15 is best especially when leaving in 1st. You will shift to 7th with 3.55 and it will slip if you get it down the track. I would put in the upgraded clutches before you even start. It is 100% going to slip it happens on all these 800+ cars. What power adder are you using to get to these levels because it also may be 3.31 is optimal.

Driveshaft blew up last time I was at the track at street car takeover. Haven't put one back in it yet lol. Hopefully putting one in today and can make it to the track rental on Thursday.

Been too busy with the family to do much

It recently got built by LPF. Held up just fine before hand. When we pulled it out there was some slight scoring but nothing that looked terrible.
I say held up fine. But would not do the 3-4 shift if I was in anything more than 10lbs. Had to reach up to the E-boost mid pass and turn the boost down and back up after it shifted lmao.
