I agree speed camera warnings are a big omission in many factory navs. But that is easily solved by dropping a $100 Garmin unit under the passenger seat and hooking that up to a 12V outlet that comes on when the car is started.

Contrary to for example TomTom Garmin's splash screen doesn't stop it from tracking your location and making sounds when you approach a speed camera. So it comes on automatically when you start the car, you don't have to think about touching away the spash screen, it pings automatically when you approach cameras and it shuts down automatically when you switch off the ignition. I use the factory system in my car for actual navigation, while the Garmin does the one thing that the factory system can't do. And all that without having to see it or having to get my phone out every time I get in the car and having an ugly bolt on accessory ruining the looks of my dash.

I have 2 questions for people who have used MFT with nav.

1. When you are not navigating somewhere, what is displayed in the upper right nav window (on the home screen)?

2. If you don't get nav at all, what is displayed in that upper right window?

I don't understand why manufacturers are getting at LEAST $800 for Nav when you can get a top of the line Garmin for $250!
Since I would only need or use it once or twice a year, it can live in the center console storage.

1. If memory serves me, it shows what street you are currently on.

You're getting voice commands with built in steering wheel control.

No clutter integration into the MFT. No cables or mounts.

Instant GPS at the touch of a button. Garmin you'll have to pull out. Set up. Recalibrate satellites.

Increased resale and chance to sell due to a high demand feature.

Live traffic with route detour for accidents or construction.

MFT covered by factory warranty.

Not bad for a measly 10 dollars a month...once again it's silly not to have it.

I think it's silly to be that guy with the cell phone/gps mounted on the windshield. With a beautiful 8 inch screen with no NAV...

This. I can't stand with wire dangling around and those gps attachments on windscreen. And that 8" screen in 2015 mustang is gorgeous. I want my maps to be displayed there.

I had a GPS that automatically zoomed into turns but, unfortunately, it would also automatically drop to a medium view when out in rural areas. When traveling on the Freeways out West, I would like to see what's ahead for 50-100 miles, but the unit would display a blank screen because there were no side roads for 10-20 miles. I would have to touch the screen to get it back to wide view, then after a few moments it would go back to a medium view.

Does the Ford Nav unit keep the zoom level the driver chooses?

I like a large nav screen when driving and no way am I hanging a 7-8 inch aftermarket onto the dash of my new 2015 vert! A large aftermarket GPS runs about $400...so I am willing to throw in another $400 to get a large screen inside the dash.

Mine will have a 4.5 inch screen and the Nav wouldn't be $10 a month, it would be $4795 extra out of pocket! You have to order premium (+$4000) and then add Nav (+$795)
So my one time payment of (approx) $26,440 (msrp) and I'll buy a really nice Garmin for the glove box.
Once a year when I would use it, I'll live with a power cord.
If you're not looking at monthly payment but paying for it free and clear, your money becomes more real. I'll have a sweet EB, manual and pocket the other $5k. Plus after a lot of research on other Ford forums, I'm a little gun shy of the MFT. Many many buyers taking back their Fords multiple times for "software updates" and problems with MFT.

I have, for years, used Delorme's mapping program on a laptop, which had the advantage of being very cost effective - assuming I already had the laptop - and easy to use and see (14" laptop screen). I've had a laptop desk (like police cars use) in my old Aerostar, and more recently in my Mountaineer, to allow it have a fixed mounting.

What I really liked about this system is that I can map out a specific route in advance (with waypoints, specific stops, using specific roads of my choosing), tweak in average speeds for different classes of roads, and then navigate by it, with or without spoken instructions. Does the built-in system offer any of that functionality, esp. the route creation aspect?

1. Calm down sparky. Read the thread title.

2. Those MFT complaints were from 2011 to 12 when the system was awful. The 2012 upgrade fixed mostly everything. The only recent complaints come from people to stupid to figure out how to use it.

I'm still on the fence when it comes to nav. I have nav in my current car on a 7" touchscreen, but I still use Waze because of it's awesome features like: cop reporting, road hazard reports, speed camera locations, ability to send friends your location/eta, and social aspect.

I feel like if I buy the nav, i'll just end up using Waze and it will be a waste of money. Manufactures should just start integrating Waze into their systems.

I have and use Waze every time I am in my car mainly for cop alert and camera notification, but I ordered NAV. I figure I will use NAV for the directions, and continue to use Waze just for avoiding tickets.

I've updated my order to include the Navigation and Security package. Lets hope the Navigation is good and I don't end up using Waze eventually.

With nav, it displays a compass in the upper right quadrant. Not sure about without nav. Someone said it in another thread, but I can't remember what.
