What's the max rated/safe torque for this tranny?

This transmission can handle a ton of power and torque. You want a proper tune though. I've read that it's able to handle 590 ft lbs, but that's only what I read. A clutch pack and intermediate shaft upgrade really raises the limits substantially from what I understand and this trans is one of the most stout from Ford...ever. Do some research and go from there.

800nm = 590ftlbs.
It's used in trucks, dragsters, and SUVs. Pretty heavy duty transmission.

9s shouldn't be an issue in most cases. I will say they shift more consistently once you do the upgraded clutch packs from exedy, like these:
