3M Tape On Ceramic Coating?

As the title asks, has anyone tried putting a exterior mod on their coated car using 3M tape? I'm curious if it would hold at all. I found 1 thread on autogeek where some suggested it would be fine for someone who had CQuartz.

I would like to get side scoops at some point and mentioned that to my detailer when i picked the car up from having Ceramic Pro added. He wasn't certain how it would hold up, but recommended to have the coating buffer off the sections where the 3M tape would be applied. Then have the coating re-applied. Obviously that's the smart decision, but I'm curious how it would hold up well without doing that.

I have Opticoat on mine and 3M tape just falls off.

Not going to work unless you remove ceramic pro.

I figures as much. Detailer quoted me $50 to buff the area, then then re-apply Ceramic Pro to the side scoops. A round of thanks to you both.

I have Opti-coat Pro on my car and my MMD scoops stick like super glue...I pulled pretty hard and that tape isn't letting up at all.

I was told anything applied atop the coating would need to have the coating buffed off. Vinyl, scoops everything. Kinda bummed

Well if it means anything my MMD scoops have been on a week now and I've had the car up to 75 mph and they are still attached.

I have my side scoops waiting. Once I get my car back, I'll test a spot with the 3M tape and see if its sticks.

My roush side scoops seem to be holding just fine with the 30lb 3M tape.
