325 tires for rear?

The speedo is linked to the driveshaft revolutions, so the rear tires matter. The difference from a 305/35 to a 325/30 is 2.6%. That means at 100 mph on 325/30's for real, your speedo will read 102.6 mph. It's not enough to fret about. At 60 to 70, your speedo will read 2mph high.

I dont want to sound stupid but I have to ask. Does this mean GT350R's speedo will always read higher?

how did you come up with 8% ?

front tires:
295/35-19 = 767 rev/mile
305/30-19 = 792 rev/mile

792/767 = 1.03

The speedo runs off the drive wheels.

Rear tires:
305/35-19 = 758 rev/mile
325/30-19 = 778 rev/mile

778/758 = 1.026, or 2.6%

With this change, the speedo will read 2.6% higher than your actual speed.

By the way, I have decided to not hold onto the M5 and decided to daily drive the GT350. So I am no longer the M car fan I once was. And I am probably the only person crazy enough to daily drive this car in snow. My PA4s arrived yesterday. Want a picture of those or do you think I spent $1400 to troll the forum?

I will actually do that when I go home. I am really tired of this personally but if its going to resolve the issue I dont mind.

Sorry to hear you slid. Was this with the snow tires or cup tires? Deep snow or slush or ice?

When I say daily drive mine, I should also mention 80% of that daily driving will be done by my wife. She drops me and my daughter off at train station/school and does all the shopping etc. its going to be quite an experience. Thankfully she is good with clutch, it was actually her who taught me how to use the clutch when I met her back when I was just out of high school. I m not embarrassed to admit this at all

I think sometimes I say things without properly explaining them and its a mistake on my part. I understand that for a car speedometer is calibrated for the tire it comes with.

My question is would ford calibrate the speeedometer of R and non R differently or use one of them as calibration and use the same settings for the other one.

I m not sure if they will calibrate base car and R separately?

In the transmission, there's a sensor that makes a fixed number of ticks every revolution of the output shaft (driveshaft). These ticks are shipped to the ECU where they're packaged up and sent to the Body Control Module over the CAN bus. There's a conversion factor in the Body Control Module that converts rotations of the driveshaft into MPH readings for the speedo and distance data for the odo.

The conversion factor is part of the "As-built Settings" for the vehicle. As-built settings are set at the factory based on the installed equipment (in this case the tire size) and stored in Ford's maintenance database. Whenever a new module is installed, the technician downloads the as-built settings for your VIN and codes them into the module. Various models of the same vehicle will have the same modules with different settings depending on the options chosen by the new owner.

So, yes, if you have the "R" option on your car, your as-builts will provide the correct conversion factor for the R tires. If you have a non-R, you'll have the same module with a different factor.

There are aftermarket tuner systems that can change this setting, but for a couple of percent it's just not worth it.
