I realized today after playing around that in near normal driving today, I was doing 40 mph in 1st gear. This was a normal acceleration just a little spirited (keeping RPM's up higher then normal with maybe 1/4 push on accelerator). 3.35 gears are way to tall for this car. I don't think I have ever owned a car who's first gear was so friggen tall.

it has an engine!
You clearly havent driven a vette or gt500 or any car like it. First is even taller. 40 isnt all that tall. Try 50-60 in first, thats tall. 40 is damn short when your car is actually fast.

Hell, I'm still used to bikes where 80 in first isn't out of the realm of possibility and some will hit 100 before even shifting gears.

There is no 3.35 gear, did you mean 3.31 or 3.55?

Like mentioned above the manual trans Mustang has really short gears compared to other American sports cars like the Vette, GT500, and especially the Viper. Those three can hit 60mph or thereabouts in 1st gear.

the 3.31's in my last vert never really felt like they were overly long at all. though 3.73's will be in my next one.

If you mean 3.31 gears, then doing 40 mph in 1st gear is ~6200 RPM. 3.55 gears would put the RPM to ~6600 at 40 MPH in 1st gear.

I actually like my 3.31 gears. Some guys say the 3.71 gears are a bit too low with 1st gear. The 3.55 gears is a good compromise IMO.

The 1/4 mile guys actually like the 3.31s because it allows them cross the line still in 4th gear.
