Questions. I contacted several dealers about a 23 order. All demonstrated various levels of not really wanting to work with me. I did get one order confirmed. Now 2nd dealer sending me buyers order. No deposit. Do I sign that one also? Not sure if this is a red flag but this dealer sent me a full blown buyers order to sign as if car was on the lot. I don’t think I should sign something that binds me to car unseen.
I would ask them for clarification. Is it an actual purchase contract or just a build/order sheet? If it’s just a build to order sheet there’s probably no harm in having a second car built as a backup if they’re not charging a deposit. Just make sure to read any fine print to make sure you’re not on the hook for anything.

I got a buyers order sheet that had pricing totals on it and signature. The next page was a Dora with all my options listed, the dealer code and sales code. I would sign it, gives you some kind of paper to fight any price increases later.

There’s an initial spec sheet they print out after going over your car build with you. It’s what the managers reference when submitting your order to Ford, so you’re just agreeing to what is listed by signing it.

After the order is officially submitted, you’ll get an email confirmation from Ford. Make sure you tell them to add your email to your profile — most don’t and only capture the info on your driver’s license.

You should then ask your dealer to send you a quick photo of your WBDO (Web-Based Dealership Ordering system, formerly DORA). That will be the actual build sheet that Ford will reference when building your car. Make sure everything matches what you wanted, as changes cannot be made once your car is scheduled for Production. They’d have to cancel your first order entirely and resubmit if that happens (ask me how I know šŸ™„).

As far as I’m aware, unless you’ve paid a deposit, you’re not on the hook and can decline the car if/when it arrives. The car just becomes stock for their lot.

The first sheet is just the custom order. That one seems harmless. It’s this one I don’t think someone would sign until taking delivery. It reads as a contract and could bind me. They are closed today so can’t get clarification

Oh wow. Yeah that’s uhh…that seems a bit preemptive to me? Good call holding off and I’d definitely get clarification first. I only signed that initial build sheet and nothing more to get this process started! They’re jumping the gun for some reason.

That looks like an actual sales contract to me, although they do have everything filled in as N/A. Seems a little odd to me. I only had to sign an order sheet with the DORA attached when I placed my order. The actual purchase contract, similar to what you just posted, was signed at delivery

Just an FYI that dealers get penalized when custom orders are not taken by the person that ordered them. So maybe they want to hold you to the order by making you sign an actual purchase contract?

Thanks all. I’m not signing regardless of what they say. My signature could bind me to buying a vehicle I haven’t seen.

Yea I did not sign anything like that. Looks like on of the papers I signed at delivery. I would ask for something in writing that states you have the right to back out of purchase for any reason.

I would just say that I’m not comfortable signing something that looks like a legally binding contract until the vehicle is seen

Checked my tracker this morning and…

Haven’t heard from anyone yet and knowing my dealer, I’ll probably have to reach out myself since we never even finalized the financial side like he said we would before she arrived. šŸ™„

Thankfully, all my ducks are in a row on my end and my trade-in is prepped, so hopefully I’ll pick her up soon!

And just for the record for those that track this sort of thing on here — from order submission (8/5) to arrival at my dealership (10/24), this process took just shy of 12 weeks. I’m hoping that same turnaround time continues for ā€˜23 orders. šŸ¤ž

I absolutely will! I’m excited to add another pony to the GBM herd. šŸ˜Ž

This car’s arrival couldn’t come at a better time, as my poor 2013 Civic has had just about enough of my spirited enthusiasm while driving her the last several weeks. šŸ˜‚ I can tell she’s ready for retirement and to pass the baton to a younger car that can handle my BS hahaha
