They don't allow them because they know they're not good at performing and are dangerous. You need some rubber to perform properly. Thin tires are strictly for cosmetics.
Right.Wrong both the tire companies and the car builders have been asking to change to bigger wheels and lower profile tires in F1. One of the reasons Michelin pulled out of F1 is the 13" tires didn't relate to their street tires they wanted lower profile tires and F1 wouldn't go that way. Too much of the suspension on a F1 is solely the tire. This allows the suspensions to be less critical than if the tire had less flex and the suspension more.
