Why doesn't Ford make the Mustang Flex fuel like the F150's? Too much power for their liking?
Ive been doing a lot of work lately with the gdi side and was surprised to learn that the stock gdi pump is near max capacity on a stock mustang. My semi-educated guess here is that Ford intended to continue running 90% gdi on e85 and the stock pump could only do that at the 400 hp level, not 460+. Yes, they could put some logic in there to supplement with port injection as a function of ethanol content but then you have to ask what’s in it for them and is it worth the programming and validation effort.

If this is true but come an e85 tune with no pump upgrade makes an additional 35 or so hp?

It’s very easy to lower the gdi blend % and just supplement with port injectors in the cal. What I’m saying is the f-150 doesn’t have to and I don’t see an easy way in the program to have it automatically reduce gdi blend % as ethanol % increases.

Yet lower HP boost kits use the factory pump on gas with a BAP. I'm installing twin Hellcat pumps in mine for a P1X on 12PSI with E85 though.

I'm going to show my ignorance what is a BAP.

Boost a pump. It's an electrical device to increase the voltage to the stock electric fuel pump thereby giving a greater volume of fuel to the injectors. Cheaper and easier than replacing the fuel pump with a high volume one.

I was describing the limitations of the GDI pump and possibly why the mustang isn’t flex fuel. I made no mention of the electric low-pressure pump.

Lower boost kits sometimes don’t even require a bap

Both the HO ProCharger complete kit and the Whipple complete stage one kit do not come with a BAP, nor is one needed. The Whipple on my 2019 Bullitt made 10psi, the ProCharger only about 6.5.

How much hp did you make without a bap?

True. My Procharger kit at 12psi on E85 needs a full fuel system. All depends on the boost levels and fuel used.

How much hp does 12psi and e85 get you?
I figure 700+ you need a bap or it starts becoming a good idea at least

The Whipple made 675 rwhp at 7800 rpm. The ProCharger made 525 rwhp at 7,000rpm. Both SAE. Both without BAP on 93 octane

Should be 800+RW, I'm going for 850. The MAK 4.5" inlet will give another 1-1.5# of boost. If I was just running a basic 6.5# kit on E85 it would need help with fuel.

I'm finally taking the dive as well. Ordered a Stage I Procharger, for my 2015 GT convertible, it should be in in a couple weeks. Being a mechanical illiterate, I'm having my "performance artist" install and tune it. Looking forward to some long cruises in the mountains and plains (I live in Loveland, CO).
