The GT350/R will not be a competitive choice in 2018 compared to their crosstown rivals. Sure it has the flatplane, it's more special etc. However, these cars are sold on the specs and track times, special only goes so far. Ford knows this which has something to do with a two year run.

The GT500 will have everything that the GT350 has but it will be faster and have even more power. The Mach 1 may be targeted to compete with the ZL1, whereas the GT500 will take on the Z/28. And who knows if Mopar will ever release a truly competitive 'Cuda. I'd really like to see that.
I agree with what you are saying. It makes the most sense to have your halo Mustang be on top while it is in production, then replace it with another halo variant to keep it on top. Personally, I think this is a great idea and hope it comes through. I can understand why some would want the 350 to continue production, though.

I would hope that they dont overproduce these cars. The 350 is already verging on that. If they build over 13/14k of them, thats too much IMO. Seeing them on every corner like the c7 just lowers the appeal. I bet its gone in 18. A limited 2017 run of gt500s to keep anniversary, and then full steam in 2018 and 2019. The 5.2 CPC TT auto option will be in the next one..just willing to bet. We'll see though...

Please overbuild these cars and prevent these types of stupid ADM situations. Build one for everyone that wants one. Build build build.

I'm not buying cars because I want to be the only guy on the block with one. I'm buying them because they're good cars. The more good cars are out on the street, the fewer bad ones I have to see.

Also worth noting that apparently there are many tens of thousands of GT500s out there and I rarely see one, so there goes that theory for both of us.

There are over 40K GT 500's out there. You see them @ car cruise's but not on the street. I don't see that many C7's on the street in north Atlanta area.

Yes we have, actually... About 5 months ago two members confirmed a dealer document stating 2016/2017 MY production limited to 3600/360 for nonR/R. That's pretty darn good evidence that it's a 2-year limited run.
Well they've already exceeded the 3600 a year number of the regular ones. Looks like it will be more like 5000/500 a year when it's all said and done.

I disagree. GT500 will be a forced-induction, grand touring car and compete directly with the ZL1. It will be offered in both coupe and convertible and manual/auto.

I imagine Ford has a future track-oriented Mustang in mind if they choose to compete directly with a rumored 6thGen z/28.

Theres more gt500s than 20,000
They made around 11,000 in just 13 and 14. I see them frequently and damn every old farmer around here owns a c7. Thats why you dont see them in atlanta. They are all in Iowa.
I get that you want to build build build. Thats what the GT is for. It wouldnt be a special car if EVERYone that WANTS one would get one. Wish they would go back and build build build the Ford GT so that everyone that wants one could get one, but that aint happening and im sure ford wont ware out the 350 either. If they do make the 350 in 18 it would only bring it to around 15 or 16k made...which still isnt too bad. Ibet 2020 brings another 350 as well.

Exclusivity shouldn't be Ford's forte which is an every mans brand. It just doesn't make sense to say this is the best car we can make, but here's some cars that aren't as good that we'll happily sell you if you can't get your hands on the really good one that we've artificially limited to create "buzz" and allow dealers to reap fantastic amounts of free money from.

I'm happy you're excited about the car as a sort-of limited edition status symbol, but I disagree that's what Ford should be doing though. Leave that crap to the rich, the people that can afford over-$100k cars, the Bugattis of the world.

That's not entirely true. How many people want and actually are going to buy a $50-60k mustang?

Keeping it a limited 2 year run would prevent there being too many, while allowing those that really want one to get one.

The GT350 is a fantastic car, but the buying process is terrible. One shouldn't need to get lucky to spend $50k+ on a car. The limited nature of the release is fueling dealers' ability to charge inflated amounts that serves no one except dealership owners' pocketbooks.

In talking with marketing director Jim Owens at the track tour the GT350 and its motor program were pitched and concieved around a 2 year run with the voodoo specific to the GT350 program

I have no facts to back this up, just pure conjecture. As others have stated, the GT350 will be a two year production run ending in 2017. The GT500 and Mach I will show up in 2018. The next corner carving Mustang COULD be a Boss version in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Boss 302.

Ford keeps their specialty cars at around 5k to 6k a year and have done so for quite some time. Its because they know their market and what they can build and sell easily. You dont want to market like chevy does and overbuild and let them set on the lot/ or sell gobs under msrp.
If this does run until 2018 i expect around 4 to 5k made for a total 350 run of 16 or 17k. That number should fill the needs of the masses. The heads will turn to the gt500 next and several of the 350 owners will trade in their cars for it creating a nice 350 used market and then the next 350 will come. Rinse repeat

18s possibly but not 19.
Ford will have too much on thier plate with specialty cars.
3 years back they announced 12 by 2020.
They still have several to go...no way they produce all this at once. If they do that would be monumental imo.
