I'll believe the springs and dampers when I feel them. There have always been a large percent of buyers who do NOT want the harsher ride of the current PPs. I can't see Ford abandoning them.

Anyone know if the base cars have better tires in 2018? The PPs sure as hell do. If the 2018 bases handle a lot better, I suspect its more from tires than springs and shocks.
The PP isn't harsh or particularly firm though. The non-PP cars are wallowy pigs (I know, I bought one). My contacts say they have done some good work on the dampers for 18. It's also been stated by Ford (gotta find that) that the 18 base suspension is at the level of the 15-17 PP.

What a coincidence. That sounds really familiar... Guess that's how hierarchies work huh? GT350 hamstringing the GT. GT hamstringing the Ecoboost. Yep.
nice try. The 350 is a separate halo model with more track focus. The ecoboost is a choice YOU make to accept less performance from the Mustang at a reduced cost.

If the GT350 can't deliver enough performance to allow the GT to be competetive with its closest rivals at a similar price point...it's time to put the 350 out to pasture.

I'm not even saying that Ford's philosophy is to hold the GT back to prop up the 350, but if it is it's a terrible strategy and it will cost them

Well damn, if the new base GT is similar to the existing PP suspension wise, i'm not sure the new PP1 will be all that great for a daily driver. Adding the magnaride, you're essentially paying $4k for some brakes, a diff, and a few other parts that really won't matter if you aren't tracking the car.

Sounds like $$ will be better spend buying the magnaride, and order the big brake kit with some 2pc rotor aftermarket. That or just wait till they are discounted and spec it out as you want. Once the $52k builds are moving for $45k + TTL they will sell (IMO). I don't see a ton moving at MSRP though, outside of the gotta have it first crowd.

It probably will still be a good daily, and perhaps that's where some of the money went. You can have both, even with non active dampers, it just costs more. Also you cannot get mag ride without getting the PP.

Damn, every build I did was PP so I didn't realize it was mandatory for the mag ride. Guess that about solves it.

One thing my wife didn't like with the 15-17 non-pp cars was that they felt 'floaty'. This should rectify that nicely. Shame I can't get her to commit to driving a stick and just get a 350. :headbonk:

No... the PR said the 18 base suspension was firmer than the plush riding 15-17. I believe folks are taking a pretty large leap from that wording to "base GT now handles as well with as much rigidity as the outgoing 2017 PP".

Huge assumptions are being tossed around like they are documented fact. No where has it been stated that the 18 base is now the 15-17 PP, and therefore the next jump to conclusions statement that the 18 PP surely is "much improved" is pure conjecture based on pure speculation.

Given that Ford likely has a hard ceiling of handling prowess set with the Halo GT350, and given that the 15-17 PP was a fairly decent package, there just isn't a lot of room left to slot a PP2 between a "greatly improved" PP and the GT350.

Jarstang posted this on the first post of the 2018 reveal thread. Maybe we should ask him which source he referenced?

KEY CHANGES
2018 Mustang offers an EcoBoost and GT model only. V6 is gone.
All models get revised shocks, increased lateral stiffness, and revised stabilizer bars (base suspension improvements said to be on par with the previous optional performance suspension)

They also said a 2015 GT was at the same level as a 2014 Boss 302. It called marketing by some, lying by others.

And on the track, it was (laptimes).

ALl I can see here is that there's no way I can move in to an 18 at a price that's even comparable to my 15(base)GT/PP, it's thousands more and what do I get...25hp? I expected some increase but I'm not getting bent over like this and sure it's just a little anger but it will spur me to take a serious look at the 1LE and SRT8 whereas I was pretty sold on moving in to the 18 Mustang.

For $6500 it better come with the forged wheels, cloth recaros, magneride and everything else the regular PP has. For that I'll wait for the late availability.
PP wheels aren't forged. They're heavy as hell boat anchors at about 34lb for the rear.
