Hello,

I am gathering all the components and tools to install a set of long tube headers on my 2019 GT (whenever they finally ship and work slows down).

I know the headers I ordered come with O2 extensions, but I figured since I’m in there I may replace the oxygen sensors with new ones. It’s my understanding certain F150 O2 sensors are basically direct replacements for the upstream sensors and don’t require extensions. I have searched extensively on the forum and have not found what I find it be a definitive answer to which F150 sensors to use for 2018+ cars.

From my searching I have found two different upstream O2 sensors for gen 3 F150s: NTK 27079 (B1S1) and 27080 (B2S1). I’m also not opposed to using a different brand, I just found the NTKs in stock locally.

Will either one of those sensors work in the upstream position on 2018+ Mustang GTs? I’d like to use the 27080 since the wiring looks about 5” longer than the 27079, but I’ve not found a definitive answer.

Thanks,
Mitch

Rock Auto search,
F-150 5.0 18+ Bosch has the longest leads next to NTK.
Double check Rock Autos illustrated O2 connector end to verify.

Thanks. So basically any of the upstream 18+ 5.0 F150 O2 sensors are a direct replacement for the 18+ Mustang as long as the connector is correct? I’ll have a look at the Bosch.

Why not use the extensions?

Because of this.

Extensions can get sketchy.
I’ve heard, anecdotally but from trusted sources, about blown engines due to faulty O2 extensions. Why risk an engine over a set of $40 extensions when I can just get new sensors that don’t require extensions?

It’s not terribly outlandish to consider the possibility, especially on a boosted setup.

It’s admittedly not firsthand knowledge, but new O2 sensors are $80 each and no extensions are needed. Why risk it to save a few dollars?

But that’s not really the point of the thread. I’m trying to figure out the right ones to use, and I think I have. Once I know for sure I’ll report back.

At first I was surprised because I didnt know that sometimes extension causes some issues.

If there's an upgrade for 02 sensors I would buy them.

Yeah I’ve not seen it widely reported, but like I said, I’ve heard from some trusted sources within the community that extensions may have caused issues. I’m simply not taking the chance if an option exists
