Changing Manual Gear Knob

with the risk of sounding like a complete woose, did anyone else have trouble removing the factory shift knob?? I Put it in reverse and tried to unscrew it (counter clockwise) but for the life of me, that thing did not move!

I will admit I had to us a wrench to break it loose. I actually called American muscle just to make sure it wasn't reverse threaded or something. I'm no body builder but the combinations of not having a good leverage angle and how tight mine was on there made it impossible for me to do by hand.
