no wonder the eco 2.3 sounds like poo lol. flat plane sounds good as a v8 though..thays for damn sure. i was gunna buy a 2.3 till i heard one lol. i had a 2.3turbo 87lx that i did the swap on...loved it..and couldnt wait for the eco 2.3....but i just couldnt do it. i love my v6 :)
The other thing is exhaust manifold tuning, inline 4's can sound good too. However, being turbo kills a lot of harmonics and resonance from the exhaust. Even a BMW inline 6 turbo sounds like poo.

I loved the sound of my NA 2.3 in my dirt tack Mini Stock I used to race. It had a Shonfeld header with nothing else. We had that engine pushing about 175HP at the crank. (Keep in mind, this engine was about 50HP stock.) Of course, that was at 10,000 RPM. It was music to my ears!!! I'm pretty sure it has the same basic short block design as the Ecoboost

the old 2.3 shates nothing with the eco....unless your talking about the duratec 2.3....in which case yes...their are similarities. i had a 2.3l focus zx3 with full bolt ons. made 200hp 200tq at the flywheel. it sounded nice with full length header and 2.5" borla center exit... but the eco 2.3....sounds "ok" stock but once you mod the exhaust....naaasty

I wasn't really sure about how similar they were if at all. My brother did the majority of the engine work. I know the head was way different. I guess the crank was a flat plane in my engine. I sold that car fourteen years ago. Here's a pic for the hell of it.

I've heard an Eco with a nice exhaust. It sounds awesome.

I am starting to gather from your comments, you have either never heard either car. You definitely have not heard an eco with a high quality exhaust.

All I seem to read from you is how bad the eco sounds and how great the v6 does. If that's what it takes for you to justify your purchase than more power to you.

Ecoboost don't sound bad at all it depends on what type of exhaust you have and for the record a stock ecoboost with a tune would kill a V6

yes we all know a eb with a tune will beat a v6. thank you. its my opinion....and yes....its one of the main reasons i didnt buy a eb. and yes...ive heard eb's with good exhauat and i didnt like it at all. the only one ive heard that sounded good was one with a turbo upgrade. thats just my opinion though...

btw my car runs a 13.3@105 and 0 to 60 in 5.3...i raced a eb vs a v6 stock for stock amd the v6 won both times. and i drove the eb for a few weeks.

i wanted the EB when it came out, since I loved my old 2.3 turbo 87lx. and I spent all of 2015 wanting a EB until I heard what they sounded like. I was pretty disappointed with the sound, and im no stranger to turbo motors, and how they sound. my last car was a stg3 wrx. I had 2 2.3T cars, one of which I built from the ground up. I once I spent some seat time in the EB on a work trip, my mind was made up. while I enjoyed all the low end tq the EB makes, I felt its short power band...(ie falls on its face at 5500) I just didn't like how short the power band is. and lets be honest....price point wasn't the issue between buying a v6 or a EB. if I had my way id have a GT, but im a single income father of 3, married, own a home and am still paying for my wifes expedition lol. I just couldn't swing the extra 8-10k the gt costs. I looked at maybe doing a EB with a turbo upgrade...but that cost 4-5K....at that price I can procharge my v6 and make 430whp on 8psi. or I could spend 2-3k and build my own turbo setup and make close to 500 whp. I spent a long time weighing the pros and cons of the eb vs v6. and when it came time to buy, I never even looked for a eb. I have to be able to enjoy how my car sounds, and I just couldn't do that in the eb. and unless you live your life a 1/4 mile at a time....that 3-4 tenths difference at the track doesn't mean much while your driving back and forth to work, or running up canyons like I enjoy doing. again, this is all just my personal preference, take offense if you may...

I wanted a Ecoboost as well but there wasn't one at the dealer in manual and they had a great deal on my V6 manual. Now I'm getting a Procharger on my V6 so I'll have the Ecoboost Ford should have made :)

It seems like half of the threads on this forum get derailed into which Mustang is best arguments. Can't we all just get along?

DR, when do you plan on getting the procharger?

A full turbo upgrade kit for an EB is $3,500 and you'll be paying at least $6,000 to procharge a V6. You mention hearing all these EBs with upgraded exhausts but online videos really don't count. You mention normal driving but concede that the EB makes more low end torque which is where normal driving occurs. Tuning fixes the power drop off and takes EBs into the 12s easily so I'm really not seeing a modded performance argument for the V6 at all
