You aren't picking up the whole car at once... 4,000 lb capacity is more than enough.

Btw I have had that exact jack for several years

I have the jack you show and have hell getting it under my car that is lowered on Steeda Springs. Jacking rails are going to be one of my next purchases because I'm sick of dealing with jacks not being low profile enough.

I just went through this same stuff. After I lowered mine with an Eibach Pro-Kit, I couldn't get my regular jack under the car. My jack measured 5-1/2" from the bottom of the wheels to the top of the lifting point on the jack, so I bought a Liftmaster 2.5 ton low profile jack. From bottom of wheel to lifting point is 3-3/8" - 3-1/2". No more problems. It reduced loud, horribly abrasive language in my garage. (Now I just swear about other stuff).

I have both the 3 ton aluminum and the 3 ton steel low profile jacks from harbor freight, and the steel one is better.

1. It's much cheaper. You can get it usually for ~$80 with a coupon
2. The steel jack has a slightly lower minimum height. Useful if you have a lowered car and jacking rails.
3. Any weight difference between the aluminum jack and steel jack isn't worth talking about. They're both heavy jacks, and you wont notice any difference in weight by rolling them around.

Otherwise, performance is the same between the two 3ton models. So save your money and get the steel jack.

Edit:

Also, I want to note that, while you can get away with a jack even as low as a 1.5 ton, the higher rated jack will lift the car with much more ease than a lower rated jack.

This is the one I have:

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-...vy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-61253.html

It works like a charm, and sits low enough for me to jack up the car directly from the K-member from the front.
I also have this jack and it's been great so far. I also have the cross beam that HF sells. I can lift the whole side of the car in about 30 seconds. It's kind of like having jacking rails, but not installed on the car. I'm not sure it would work on lowered cars though. So, I may still end up getting rails.

I've got this one too. Love this jack. I'm lowered on steeda progressives. No issues jacking up the car from anywhere. I'll use it to jack the entire rear of the car. It will lift it up from the sides as well and get both tires up.

be forwarned that jacking rails do hang out a bit under the car, which could make things worse clearance wise... consult with the manufacturer before purchase, or drive up on 2x10's like i do.

Thanks for the heads up, I have been wondering about that. The jack with the beam attached just barely fits under the car now. I'm thinking if I lower the car 1" pulling it up on to 2x10's should give just enough clearance.

no problem. just passing it forward after someone else suggested it. just went to home depot and asked them to chop up a 2x10 for me and problem solved. those jacking rails are a great time saver. just remember to cover the jacking pad (i wrapped the end of mine with a big old sock) because i've seen pics posted here of the damage it causes to the rails when you don't :(
