Read a lot on STi forums and often get compared to the GT, performance wise the STi has not progressed in some ways like it probably should have, similar #'s to the STi of 8-10 years ago. I had 2012 WRX and loved it, test drove a 16 STi and was really close to buying, happened to see pricing on a GT and test drove it. That was all it took, found myself giggling like a little kid every time I pressed the skinny pedal!!

i had a 12 wrx like you, full bolt ons, e85, external gate..last compression
test was sketchy, was consuming oil, so i parted it out and traded it in, i wasnt going to drop 10k into a car for 400whp..its probably blown up by now..haha

Great choice! I have an '03 WRX wagon as my winter beater. Bought it from a co-worker the same week I got my new Mustang. It needed work so I got a good deal on it and had to put new heads on it (burnt a valve at 130k miles). I love the car but I don't understand how Subaru gets such good "quality" thrown around...I had so many bolts strip out on me on the engine rebuild...it was ridiculous (including three of the head bolts that I had to rent a special insert tool for!) Ford's aren't all that reliable either, and I am still disappointed in the short-cuts and QC issues they've had with the '15s, but at least they're still easy to work on and I don't fear bolts stripping out on me like I do on the Subaru! LOL
