Interesting. I'd be interested to know if anybody actually had warranty work denied on an engine because of a catback.

That document seems pretty standard - very similar to VW and Subaru publications that I've read in the past.

Ultimately, it comes down to judgement/opinion of the service center doing the work. I know of some dealerships that would deny a warranty claim because of a CAI, where as another would look past it and do the work.

It's important to note it is not the dealer that ultimately approves/denies a warranty claim; only Ford can do that. Just because a particular dealer says they will not perform warranty work on your car doesn't mean your claim is denied; just take it to another dealer. As a last resort, if you believe your claim is valid you should contact Ford directly.

The key is the type of damage present and the mods installed. If you happen to be unlucky enough to experience a turbo failure AND you have an aftermarket catback exhaust installed, then you are likely f---ed. Even if everyone knows the "reduced backpressure" had nothing to do with causing the turbo to overspeed there is no way to prove a negative.

I've seen that document floating around and don't really see why it would be considered unreasonable. If you come in with a p0174 error, cracked ring lands with just a CAI, and an ecu with a flash count in double digits then it's pretty obvious you did something else to the motor.
