The Guinness World Book of Records was commissioned to document a world record attempt of the most cars (Mustangs only) in a continuous parade/convoy from Asheville, NC to Charlotte Motor Speedway on April, 16th, 2014. Although Asheville is looking to host several hundred Mustangs on the night of April 15th, the attempt to break the record will now take place for the cruise in from Charlotte Motor Speedway to Kannapolis, NC on Friday, April 18th.

As of this writing (February 26th) we don't have enough cars registered yet to break the 620 car record, however since there will be up to 4000 Mustangs in Charlotte for the 50th, breaking the world record seems very likely.

The world record attempt will begin at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and proceed to Kannapolis, NC for a street party with music and food and just a general 'getting to know each other, old fashioned main street cruise in', but turned up a notch...or two.

Registration for the event is only $15 and can be done via the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration website. We are taking registrations up to the end of March for this event and will accept on site registrations the evening of the cruise in. All proceeds from this attempt will go to the Wounded Warrior Family Support Charity.

Local officials will be on hand to count the Mustangs at the speedway, along the route, and as they arrive in Kannapolis. A film and photography crew will be on hand to document the attempt so that accurate records will be submitted to Guinness.

Be part of this historic event and sign up now. We would like to blow the socks off the old world record that was set in Canada back in 2008. No offense to our Canadian friends, but their hockey teams slapped the American hockey teams around at the Olympics so let's bring the Mustang gold back to the states and make the Mustang world proud with a Guinness World Record!

Don't ever let this happen again!

This is what a World Record Parade of 620 Mustangs looks like.

[ame]

The world record parade of a single car brand appears to be Mini at 1450 in 2009.

They're going down!

I don't have a Mustang yet, but if someone has a second they can't drive and would like to pay for my air fare out/back and my lodging, I would lend a hand. ;)

Good luck hope you make it a record. :D

Never mind, I should have read the entire first post. I'll probably register at the event.

I put in a request to the MCA organizers for the Guinness World Record Attempt to ask their Ford contacts to bring a 2016 Mustang GT350 (even though it would be camoed), to lead the record setting parade from Concord to Kannapolis. I will post the answer here as soon as I get it.

Any bets?

IF it is revealed at NYIAS in April, I don't see why it would be camoed if it shows up at the 50th celebrations (and also doubt that Ford would show a 2016 model year car already, so I am betting it is 2015).

At the same time I'm thinking Ford will do what Chevy did with the Z/28 and surprise everyone with it in NY. That would mean keeping it close to the vest and not involving an event that will require a lot of coordination (like leading the parade) that would risk a leak beforehand. Of course, I hope I'm wrong on this last point :)

Here is an updated version of the notice about Mustangs owners attempt to set a new Guinness World Record in Charlotte, NC
The Guinness World record for Mustangs in a parade is currently 620, which was set in Victoriaville QC in Canada by Michel Bourassa in 2008. Another attempt will be made to break Michel's record in Woodburn Oregon next month on April 12. Just 6 days later, Mustang owners from around the world and the MCA will be attempting to break Michel's record, and any new record set in Oregon.

The World Record for the number of a single brand of cars is currently 1450, set by Minis in 2009. Since it is estimated currently that there will be around 4000 Mustangs in Charlotte for the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration, there is no reason why we can't bury the previous records with at least 2000 Mustangs. We hope that Michel and the Mustangers from Quebec and Oregon will be there with us to help us set their second world record.

Our record attempt will begin at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord on Friday April 18, at the beginning of a cruise to historic Kannapolis, NC for an evening street party. A film and photography crew will be on hand to document the attempt so that accurate records will be submitted to Guinness.
You can check out the video of the 2008 parade here: [ame].

There is a registration fee of just $15/Mustang to be a part of this Guinness World Record attempt AND the cruise to Kannapolis. All proceeds from the registration fee will go to the Wounded Warriors Family Support organization. There website is here: http://www.woundedwarriorsfamilysupport.org/

Add a Mustang World Record parade to your Bucket List and be a part of history.
Sign up now by registering here: http://www.m50bcstore.com/pony-drive-registration.html and selecting the Kannapolis cruise event at the bottom of the column of events.

We are taking online registrations up to the end of March and will accept on site registrations when you check in for your Celebration package at the Embassy Suites beginning on April 16., but please help us out by not leaving it until the 18th.

And don't forget to bring all of your club members and friends

+1

They might want to show it next month to put a damper on Z/28 orders too. I'm sure there's more than a few people waiting to see Ford's answer for it.

I am sure many of you MCA regulars remember the rather 'difficult' street party caravans we had at both the 40th and 45th Anniversaries. Can you imagine us being able to arrive in Kannapolis in a nice orderly parade for the Guinness World Record? No Way.

Instead of doing the World Record count in Kannapolis, it is a no brainer that we would do it at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, probably with a stationary and a moving count. There is a record for each.

Considering that the moving count will likely be pretty darn close to where we exit the track, you would have an option of whether you want to continue on the cruise to Kannapolis or go and park and watch the rest of the parade go by.

Thoughts?

In case you missed it... here's how it looked:

That's me propped up against my 13 GHIG :)

I had my girlfriend with me, and with an hour and a half to kill we started counting. We lost track around 1330 Mustangs!

I understand from the people that were in charge of the record attempt that there were about 1200 in the staging area at one point, but when the rain started, a bunch bailed. The unofficial number being passed around was 885, beating the 829 set in Oregon 6 days earlier.

There was a decal handed out at the event, but it did not make it to a lot of the cars. Some were just placed in windshield wipers and went missing. It was provided by Nitto and their brand was the most prominent feature on the decal.

I tried to get MCA to use the following decal, but they were already committed to Nitto who was a major sponsor of the show.

I sold about 300 of them at the show for $1 to try to recover some of my cost. I will be taking the rest to Carlisle and to Woodward.
