I have the premium shaker 9 speaker system without the subwoofer and it sounded weak, but I didn't want to spend a fortune upgrading it. This is my daily driver so trunk space was important, and I listen primarily to heavy metal so smaller subs would be better for me. As you can see the subs were mounted to the rear deck in custom boxes and it looks almost factory imo.

I went with an MTX Thunder 500 amp and Memphis PRX6D2 6.5" subs in a custom enclosure and spent right at $700. I think it turned out great and I finally have some good low end.

That looks fantastic. I am in the works on something similar using some JL Audio gear.

Did you do the work yourself? How deep (rear deck down toward the trunk floor)in inches is the enclosure?

Thanks!

No I had a shop do the work. I'm not good with electrical stuff so I leave that to the professionals. So the $700 included the labor. Another shop told me they couldn't mount the subs from rear deck in an enclosure, but this shop didn't hesitate in putting this together for me. It's a shop in Indianapolis that has been around for 30 years.

I see that the Memphis has a much shallower mounting depth than my JL solution. When you get a chance if you could measure the depth of the enclosure I would appreciate it!

The memphis mounting depth is 2.96" and my enclosure is just over 4.5". That MTX amp is only 2.25" tall, so you can see the enclosure is about double it's height. I know it's hard to tell from the pic, but it's a really tiny amp.

Thanks for the info! The subs I am looking at are around 4.5 in depth which would make for a much deeper enclosure. Based on yours I have the visual. Enjoy!

Nice work, i was thinking of doing the same using either JL or DD 6.5" subs but i ended up going with a single 12 in an enclosure.

Can i ask how you are turning your amp on ?

I presume you used the rear speakers for your source. In case you didn't, where did you tie in to the existing system and are you certain you're getting an unadulterated signal?

I assume it comes on when the ignition is on, but I'll double check with the installer.

Not sure on that either, but I'll check with the installer.

THIS THREAD IS USELESS WITHOUT MORE PICTURES!!!

Its like being in 1990 when only half a pixelated boob renders.

 Sorry there's just not much more to show of the subs because they're enclosed. Here's a poor pic of my car though ;)

Nothing poor about those pics... Memphis does not give many specs on their subs on their website. I have reached out for them for more info on the sub you chose. Could you pm me your installers contact info so that I could reach out to them for more details on your enclosure? I am curious if it is sealed in what the volume is as well as how deep it could be expected to play. Thanks!
