So Kristian87 and I thought it would be a good idea to do a little report on out trip and I have been given the job of starting with day one. I think thats so Kristian gets the day he went out on the inflatable!

I guess it makes sense as my trip starts a bit before his as I started from Hastings.

Day 1

So imagine how annoying it is at 6am on a Sunday morning to be woken up by someone shouting "yes, yes, its here! We are leaving today, quick get up, I am so excited. Come on, get up!!!

Finally after a while Blake woke from his slumber and saw me dancing around his room in my boxers.

"Go away Dad" he said rubbing his eyes and grabbing his phone to see what stupid o clock time I had woken him.

This was to become a daily occurrence as I woke him every morning, full of excitement of the day ahead of us. He was to have the burden of sharing a room with me for the next 10 days......imagine his horror on one of the days he realised I had booked a double room as there were no twins left!

So, at around 7am we set off, after I had cleaned off the birds crap on my otherwise gleaming car. First thing I did was look in the rear view mirror to see if I could see the track pack spoiler I had only fitted the day before....I could. That just enhanced my excitement.

The journey to meet my mate Kristian in Newbury went well. I am sure I even saw Blake tapping his foot to Chuck Berry.

We arrived at the arrange meeting point in Newbury before Kristian and before I had even reversed in to the parking space a couple of chicks were checking me out. I must admit, I looked pretty good. New tee shirt, shorts, trainer socks and vans with my toned and tanned legs and arms on show, obviously I was going to attract attention.

Blake made some comment about it being the car they were looking at but I ignored that. He was still tired.

Sure enough, just as Kristian had arrived the car with the girls in drew up. Now there was only the one girl. Oh yes, she had dumped her friend off and was on the prowl. She wound down the window and said "I hope you dont mind my asking but can I take a picture of your car"?

I thought that was quite sweet, she bottled it at the last minute but that's fine, I am attached anyway. And so she spent the next few minutes taking pics of the cars and talking to Kristian who immediately muscled in with his designer sunglasses and trim beard. I took a back step and programmed the satnav, I was to be the lead car on the trek down to Lands End.

So, I was all ready to go and this is when we made the first of many visits to Costa Coffee. It seemed that whenever we would stop, that's where Kristian would want to be. I thought my Stang had a thirst for Super Unleaded but nothing near Kristians dependency on Costa Coffee.

Finally I dragged him away and we started our trip down to Cornwall. Stopping for Costas on the way down as often as possible.

I started realising that we have a sad problem. Everywhere we stopped, laybys, Mway service stations or beauty spots, we would take pictures of our cars. But even better, so would other people.

We stopped at a lovely reservoir on the way down. Kristian took off his top, I left mine on. I didnt want to show him up by putting my ripped torso on display. I but the burgers on the throw away bbq too early and the dripping fat put most off it out so they took ages to cook and we had medium rare sausages.

For the first time we dumped Blake off somewhere so he could film a drive by of us going over the dam wall (that's dam as in a water dam, not an expletive). We drove past and then waited for ages for him to catch us up. Only to realise he was still laying in the undergrowth for us to come back through for another drive by. He was looking slightly irritated and a bit sweaty by the time he had ran back to the car.

We got to our hotel in the early evening and yep, I had found a little gem! Just a 2 minute walk from the sea and lovely views. We spent the evening err, taking pictures of our cars! And when it got dark, I went to bed while Kristiam and Blake took pictures of the stars. Yes, the stars!

It was blissful.

Day 2

After a late night taking photos of the stars (one of my hobbies), I wasn't asleep until 1am so I wasn't looking forward to an early start! I managed to meet Steve & Blake at 0830 for breakfast though so all was well. We had the first of many fry ups - it was to be one of the themes of this holiday.

I realised for the first time as well, that no matter how many hours you spend in the Mustang one day, you want to jump straight back in it the next day. I think the 3 of us were all buzzing and eager to get on the road.

We made a relatively short trip round to the official Lands End spot, got fleeced for car parking and wondered in to the complex. Most of it closed because we were there well before 10am.

We made our way down to the sign where we got that all important photo. I asked a gentlemen stood in the little hut who turned out to be the photographer. After explaining that he wasn't supposed to take free photos and being a little grumpy, he did take our photo and we continued chatting. He explained that we could walk in one direction to find a glorious beach or in the other to find a shipwreck. We decided to go for the shipwreck which supposedly was a 10 minute walk.

10 minutes my ass. Bear in mind that this was when we had that heat wave so it was already around 25 degrees, so after about 15 minutes of walking we started wondering if this was a good idea, knowing that we still had 300 miles to cover. We continued anyway and the terrain got more challenging. Whilst we were busy cursing the guy that sent us on this 10-30 minute walk, we naturally split up to cover more ground and I eventually found it. Gotta admit it was pretty cool to see - after so many years only a third of the original wreck was still there. Satisfied with our discovery, we headed back to the car park and hit the road - we had a rendezvous with Eclipsar as he wanted to cruise with us for a while.

What started off as a good journey, went a little bad in that we hit some awful roadworks. We crawled a couple of miles in about 45 minutes. Now, traffic is normally a bore but when you are in a Mustang somehow it seems quite fun - watching all of the looks, people taking photos as generally admiring. Add to that a bright orange, well modified and LOUD Mustang then you can have even more fun. I think this was the point I started to fall in love with Stevec's exhaust - is wonderful, never failing to bring a smile to my face. Slightly annoyed when some passers by would ask me to rev the Ecoboost, only for me to explain "you need to ask that guy, he is the one making all the noise". I only kid - it was very entertaining watch people admire us!

We finally got through the traffic and met up with Chris in a lay-by on the A30 in is TY GT with OTT stripes. We decided to head for Exeter services which weren't too far away and set off. Having only ever driven with Stevec it was a blast to drive in a group of 3. Taking it in turns to overtake the other 2 cars when we had the chance - a real treat for the eyes to see 3 on the road together.

We made it too the services and obviously parked right at the back - away from all the riff raff. We were only stood by our cars for a minute or so before a rather excited 10 year old walked up. "Are these yours?", "yes they are", *high pitched voice* "really???" turns out he was a fan of Mustangs so we let him have a look under the bonnet and inside, his voice getting more high pitched and more excited whilst we answered his barrage of questions. We then headed off to the services - Costa obviously.

Bit of a balls up with our sandwiches - they left them cooking and ruined them so we had to wait for a second batch. Ok with me as it gave me time to update my instagram & twitter! Our little stop was slightly spoiled when we headed back for the cars to see 2 police cars parked next to us. As I approached they asked who the yellow one belonged to. Hmm maybe the guy with the yellow Mustang t-shirt?! I pointed them in Chris's direction and they began to give hime a good talking to for his illegally spaced number plate and electric stop n show which happened to be hidden after we had been entertaining the kid in the car park with it. Anyway - tip of the day has to be, if you are driving a stand out car like a Yellow Mustang, make sure you have legal plates! He was very very lucky to get away with only a warning. Anyway, we said our goodbyes and headed up the M5 for the midlands.

First and only problem with my car on the trip - damn radio didn't want to make any sound! Display worked and I could press all the buttons but no sound. Once we stopped and I turned the engine off/on it was fine but it was a couple of hours of thinking how much I take the radio for granted! We made good time anyway and were only 40 miles or so from our hotel in Burton.

We got to the hotel around 6.30pm. A lot later than we originally had hoped but glad to be there, and pleased to see a couple of Stangs already in the car park as we pulled in. We flicked between the bar and the car park as more & more turned up to a total of 9 Mustangs! 1 x S95, the rest were S550's. Including RSPcooper mustangguy64 & Gibbo who would be joining us for the NC500. Always good to meet more owners and talk mods etc. I was obviously keen to see the new Manders exhaust so he took me & Blake for a quick spin. I use the word "quick" in the literal sense! Exhaust sounded great, even if Manders did terrify me with his driving! I think it's the first time I have been in a car with someone on the roads going that fast. We made it back alive however and I was suitably impressed with the sound of the exhaust - it does make a huge difference to stock and makes some good sounds.

After a bit of grub, we headed for bed. Tomorrow was a drive through the Peak District with Manders and Mac. Weather was looking good so very excited yet again and buzzing from the last couple of days - it seemed that we had done so much!

Day 3

So, we were up bright and early the next morning and this time we opted for a full fry up. I began to wonder what may happen to my waist line on this holiday but convinced myself that any increased intake of calories would be sorted out by extra exercise. Hauling a big V8 muscle car around the highlands would surely be more than enough.

I told Manders we would meet him around 9.30 initially but I hadnt allowed for Kristian dilly dallying and yes, he spotted a Costa coffee!

But around 2 hours late we ended up at Manders house. It felt a little bit like calling for a friend when I was about 10 on my shiny new BMX. We loitered around on his driveway for a while drinking Sunny Delight (not really, the tight shite didnt even offer us a drink) and off we went to meet the guy that I would affectionately end up calling 'The teenager'

After what seemed like ages we eventually appeared out side a Halfords and there it was. Gleaming in all its yellow glory, 666mac and his Cervini kitted out Mustang. Must admit, its the first S550 I have seen in the flesh that I actually like as much (maybe a little more) than my own. It really is the dogs balls.

And then we were 4 and off we went for a white knuckle ride across the Peak District. I would like to say how beautiful it is but I was busy keeping up with Manders and the teenager. I wonder if anyone has told him about MPSS tyres as he seemed to be having problems keeping the arse end from sliding out.

We had a wonderful photo shoot up by the Cat n Fiddle before the Camaro (ooops I mean Mustang) left us in Manders capable hands. So off we went with Manders for a while before leaving him, as he turned off and off we went to the Lake District and 'Honister Pass'

I could feel my phone viabrating in my pocket as I drove and when we stopped next (most likely for a Costa coffee) we read the messages from Manders. He had hit a rock and taken out two tyres. But everything was OK as 666Mac on his way with the spares that he was going to bring on the NC500. I made a mental note to remember to give Manders a good kicking if anyone on the trip got a blow out.

Soon we found ourselves in the Lake District and Honister Pass. WOW! We stopped in the valley by a little stream and well, took some photos of our cars. Scenic photos look so much better with a Mustang or two in the foreground. As I looked at my V8, there was a tinge of guilt as I thought of the irony of taking pictures of the environment we are trying to save with ine of the reasons we need to save it. I soon got over that though and paddled in the water for a while.

We set off with Kristian leading and saw more scenery and dodged sheep that seemed to want to throw themselves under a Mustang.

We probably stopped somewhere for a Costa Coffee before setting of for our hotel in Carlisle. For me, we went through the only bad bit of the whole trip as we hit traffic around the Manchester/Liverpool area.

We were shot by the time we got to the hotel that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere!

Day 4

Today was the day we headed to meet @Lone_Survivor and it seemed that the good weather was over. After looking fairly bright and just cloudy to begin with, the storm clouds soon rolled in, the skies darkened followed by thunder, lightning and a lot of rain! Quick re fuel at Tesco's (and a quick Costa coffee) and we were on our way. We were only a good couple of hours from George's place so the fact that it was hammering down didn't really matter, it was a slow cruise on the motorway up to Fort William and the rain actually cleared a lot of the windscreen bugs so that was a bonus.

As soon as we crossed the border, the rain stopped and the sun tried its best to come out, not as nice as the past few days it was dry so we were grateful. We arrived at George's late morning to bacon rolls and a coffee :) before we set off, George handed us some walkie talkies which came in handy at the end of the road as Blake had left his phone is the house!

We drove for a while before stopping near a lake where a group of workers and some locals swarmed around the cars taking pictures and having a chat with us, keen to know what we were doing. Jumped back in the car and made headed for Fort Augustus, at the foot of Loch Ness. We made a quick stop as we were driving through the Highlands just to take in the view - it was the first real taste of what was in store for the next few days and WOW, the views were stunning. I could have happily doubled the length of this trip just to take in more of the scenery, it really was amazing - even if it looked like it was about to rain. You soon realise that whilst driving you can't really appreciate the beauty around, so little stops like this became a frequent thing.

We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon, so had time to go for a wonder to see the Loch. Again, feeling very lucky that the weather was holding. Decided to eat at the hotel so we booked a table. The food was a quite pricey and a bit fancy smancy but we decided to stay and eat at the hotel, which was actually lovely. Not my usual thing but was nice to have something a little different. We had a few drinks and had a good old chat with George and Linda, a lovely end to a relatively easy day in terms of driving - knowing that the NC500 was going to be intense it was nice to have a bit of a slower day.

Day 5

So we got up and had breakfast. I decided against a full English and opted for a full Scottish breakfast. Well, when in Rome and all that. Never thought I would like Haggis but I did, I do!

It was a relatively short drive along Loch Ness today. I saw the monster but before I could point it out to Blake it had gone. Nothing special really, just like a Brontosaurus type thing.

We popped in to the dealership to say hi. They gave us out tee shirts. George stripped above the waist and put his on straight away!

The fun part of the day was waiting for everyone to arrive at the hotel. One by one they would arrive and take over our little corner of the car park. Then they got snow foamed and washed ready for real fun to start the next day.

Day 6

So this was the big day...the official start of our NC500 adventure, and the climax of our Lands End to John O Groats journey. Breakfast of course was a fry up, it would have been rude not to have one...

We headed for the dealership and slowly all made it to park up right outside the building. The last few cars were washed by the detailers and we positioned the cars so some were up by the side of the road. It felt good to look at the entire group of cars, it really felt like the start of something big even though no one really knew what to expect for the next few days.

We hung around in the car park for a while chatting - this is after all, what we do best. The weather wasn't ideal but got better as the morning went on, plenty of time to get some decent pics. Gave me time as well to hand out the rest of the booklets & official NC500 t-shirts which went down very well. I don't think the turnout was quite what the dealership was hoping for - not many customers showed and there was no press. We certainly got a bit of attention however.

We lined up outside for a group shot - which we eventually turned in to a bit of an art later in the day! And then it was time to hit the road and head for our first stop - Dunrobin Castle. As we left the dealership, we were filmed by most of the staff which was really cool. Being second from last, I decided to bring a little excitement and what was mean to be a Mac like power slide out of the junction, almost ended in disaster! Stevec was behind me and found it hilarious, I did too but also thankful that I didn't ruin the trip so early on!

We arrived at the castle not long after, broken up by the traffic. But somehow all made it into the car park, despite it being fairly busy. Bit of a shuffle around after a coach driver complained we were making his exit a bit tricky. More standing around in the car park chatting and I found one of the guys managing the Castle, Scott. Turns out he was on the board for the creation of the NC500 - for those that don't know, it has only been a thing since May 2015. After a nice chat, he gave us some NC500 maps and guides and was kind enough to allow us to make a nice group shot outside the castle. A bit of a faff to begin with but once we got all cars in to position we got some great photos. We couldn't hang around long because more coaches were due and we were blocking a large chunk of the car park. Blake, with his flare for photos and videos filmed us leaving the car park - where 2 fairly high walls made for some great sounds as the V8's roared out on to the roads, next stop - John O Groats.

I was at the back of the pack following George, withe Stevec behind me. It happened by accident but was nice to arrive at John O Groats with the 2 guys that help put all this together. There was cheering and horn blowing as we entered John O Groats - it really felt like a big achievement. A few photos by the sign and before I knew it, we were lining up the cars again by the round about in front of the sign - it looked really great. As we made our way to the roundabout to get a photo of us in front of the cars, a guy magically appeared holding a "Route 500" tin sign in the shape of the Route 66 road signs, this was offered to us to pose with the photos. Being a fan of the tin signs, I told him I would have it and he agreed to take the photos. Funnily enough he didn't mention the ÂŁ25 price tag before I took it out of its wrapper. Knocked him down to ÂŁ20 though as a couple of others wanted one, expensive but a really cool souvenir!

So that was that, one last stop that was on mine and Stevec's agenda - Dunnett Head, the most northernly point in the UK. Not too far away, we pulled up in the car park and luckily managed to park in a line. We went for a quick wonder to the view point which was pretty amazing - you could see for miles! It was nearly 6pm by this point so we didn't hang around long before we headed for the hotel in Thurso.

I had made a reservation at a nearby bar/restaurant for dinner so that was where we were heading. Despite the lady on reception doing her best to discourage us saying it was half an hours walk away (think she misheard the name of the place I said), I managed to persuade people to make the walk, which turned out to be 10 minutes. I'm glad we did because it was a really cool place, a bit hot but we had the whole of upstairs to ourselves in a rather trendy bar. Food was great and we shared a few drinks and got to know each other.

After only having known each other for 24 hours, the atmosphere for the whole day was electric, everyone was buzzing and it was great to see. Steve and I got a lot of praise throughout the trip for organising but the truth is, a lot of the great moment were unplanned. They happened naturally because of the great group of people we were with. A truly great day.

Day 7

So once I had bounced around the room in my boxers telling Blake another day was upon us and he had gleefully woken to another day with his Dad, we hit breakfast hard. I decided to go with the full Scottish option today, well it seemed rude not to.

Soon we were all checked out and sat in the Stang and ready to go. Now this was not planned, far from it but I found myself ready to roll at the same time as the Wasp (Gibbo in his M3) Mac (In the transformers Camaro, minus the side scoops) and Richard in his Black GT. Err, accept he wasnt. Richard was being wedged in to the wasp and Gibbo was actually primed to drive a Mustang. They had decided to swap cars.

Now, I like to drive fast but I am not a fast driver. Does that make sense?

And, when Gibbo called to me and said "Do you know where we are going"

I said "Err yeh"

He said "We will follow you then"

"I aint driving like you lot do" I said

"Thats fine" said Gibbo "I dont wanna drive Richards car too fast anyway.

So thats how it started, just a gentle cruise. I didnt even bother overtaking when we came up behind a couple of slower moving cars but then one of them turned off and they was one, I saw the road ahead and something happened, I knocked The Beast down a couple of cogs and floored it. I thought I will just go fast enough to lose Richard, who was following in the beamer and then let him catch up. That way I can guage what sort of speed he feels comfortable to run at. Only, I didnt lose him. Through every twist and turn that pesky little BMW was in my rear view.

Soon I was feeling more relaxed at the wheel, each car we came upon was just another to overtake. Hell I was having fun. Running with those guys was possibly one of if not 'the' best days driving I have ever had.

After a stop or two, to take pictures and get out the drone I found myself tailing the group, literally hanging on to their shirt tails. The Yellow Stang, drifting round corners, The Beamer wasping itself around and Richard in the GT hanging on. We ere passing cars for fun until we came across Pete and Sue. He dont hang around either and I got caught behind him as the others sped past. That was until he waved me by and I set upon catching up with the rest of them, in fact I nearlydrove past them as they had stopped in a parking area to take a look at a beach.

Soon we were at the wonderful Smoo caves which were very enojoyable and then we stopped at some bar and played pool. Well, Blake and Connor did. Sort of!

Meanwhile, Kristian & the others had a more relaxed day of driving with a quick stop at one of the great beaches on offer. George rescued the damsel in distress - what a hero! We met briefly at the caves and then their group headed to Coco Mountain for what was apparently the best hot chocolate ever!

The evening was fun as we mixed with some of the locals at Kinlochbervie. Some very drunk locals. I am not sure what was funniest. The guy with the silver BMW saying his car is as flashy as ours, his attempts at driving it (into the wall) or the sticker and oars that George decided to customise it with.

I have to say that it was this night that I really started to realise what an amazing bunch of people I was with. I can honestly say that I liked everyone. It did not matter who you ended up sitting or standing with, you could strike up a conversation. As Kristian mentions in the previous post. Its the people that made this trip......and the cars!

Day 8

Well this was the last day we would all be together so it was a little depressing to think that all of this was nearly over :( but we had that fantastic bridge to get to! Not knowing what to expect, we rounded everyone up in the morning and just said to meet at the bridge so we can decide what we are going to do.

We arrived after a fairly short drive to a relatively empty car park just before the bridge, what luck! Again! Blake hopped in my car and we shot over the bridge for an artistic photo/video assessment. After scrambling up a hill and looking at the views we decided the other side of the bridge was best and went back.

Luckily a few cars that were around eventually moved and we got some more great shots of the cars in front of the bridge. Then the fun started...Mac got the drone out again and got some excellent footage of the cars all lined up and another one as we were driving across the bridge. We did this several times. Of course we did - it would be rude not to after all! Satisfied with our time at the bridge we headed off in search of food.

We all met in a small town and found a great little pie shop where we stocked up on food. Some of us headed for the beach whilst others went for a wee drive.

We all got to the hotel relatively early as the drive today was only around 90 miles. A good job too because we saved the best hotel till last! Beautiful views out over the harbour and best of all, the joint balconies offered up a space where we could all gather again and have a few drinks. George made a nice little speech to thank us and the whole group for a fantastic holiday. Again at this point it was awesome just to watch people having a good time, chatting and laughing away.

We then headed for dinner and straight after into the bar connected to the hotel. The pre dinner drinks may have had an impact on our behaviour this evening! The sticker challenge was officially under way...who can stick one of our NC500 stickers in the most daring place? I won't say where they all went but there was some pretty ballsy attempts.

Being by the harbour, I jokingly said that I was going to stick one one a boat...well, half an hour hadn't passed when I found myself on a tiny rubber dingy with one of the locals heading out into the water. I will forever claim that I won that challenge! I think the prize on offer was a supercharger?

Anyway, it was a great final night to round off an amazing trip. Even though Steve & I had to get back daan sarf it didn't bother me in the slightest.

Gotta admit, I was sad as Blake and I went round getting pictures of everyone with their cars. After months in the planning, The slog up through the country from Lands End for Kristian, Blake and I and here we were getting ready to say goodbye.

What was ahead of us in the morning though was awe inspiring. It was Applecross and the Bealach na BĂ  that made me think we have to do this trip again with Applecross having a day devoted to it. It was such a shame that some of the group did not do it and those of us that had a long way to go, rushed it.

Georgia was the one that set the tone at the hotel. Bless her, the littlest and youngest on the trip was in tears because it was over. The funniest thing was she broke away from the tears for the picture that Blake wanted to take, smiled and went back to the tears. So lovely at her young age, that even she new the trip had been magical.

So off we set with George setting the pace as he knew where we were heading. Luckily, so did I as he was soon well away in the distance somewhere.

The road to Applecross was what we had come to expect but once we had stopped for some chips we set of for the mountain pass that is Bealach na BĂ . We hit it at about the same time as the mist did. It spoiled the view but somehow made the journey more haunted and gave that feeling of isolation and danger.

Threading the Mustangs through the constant hairpin bends was great fun, if not a little scary. At times I was regretting the hood scoop I had fitted a few weeks back as the horizon disappeared somewhere under the bonnet. I was turning in to corners with a sheer drop and all I could see ahead of me was the black and orange of the Mustangs hood.

At one time, a guy in a Jag coming the other way put his Mrs in the drivers seat so he could see her forwards while he watched the edge of the road. Now ladies, when a man uses just his forefinger to beckon you forwards in means 'inch' forwards. Well, everyone groaned as the Jag came surging forwards about a metre with the wheels pointing towards the valley below. Both near side wheels dropped off the asphalt and the underside of the car started playing a game of scrapping the road. We squeezed by and left them to it!

Once that was done we were on our way home. Still stopping every now and then for pics.

I wont bore you with the journey home. It was long, very very long!

Summary

Kristian - well what can I say? Could I pick a highlight? Nope. The whole trip was brilliant. Every damn second, every mile, every moment, every laugh we had, every time I looked out the car window, it was either a Mustang or some stunning scenery. I used the word "Epic" to describe this trip from the very beginning and that is exactly what it was, without a doubt. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Not only was this trip amazing but for me it sums up everything that is great about the Mustang...it really has great character, it's an awesome machine to drive - these roads really proves that, and I have met so many great people in the short space of time since joining this forum. I would like to thank everyone that came on the trip, and those that met us along the way. It makes all the time we spent organising it all worth it. Bring on the next one!

Steve - The words from Kristian above could have been written by myself and its hard to know what to add.

Honestly, the people made this trip. The cars were always going to be great and they were. The scenery was always going to be great and it was. But we could have had a complete bunch of idiots or even just one idiot. But all we had was a group of wonderful friendly people and I would happily meet up with anyone of you at any time.

If I could change just one thing, just one? Gibbo would have been in his Mustang!

Thanks George, I think we are taking a break now - the rest will likely be finished tomorrow...half way there though. Smile on my face as I write all this down!
