New car, still playing with all the different modes but I can't figure out the difference between Sport+ mode and dropping the shifter into S.

They both seem to arouse similar (maybe identical) throttle, shift point and RPM behavior. I think so far Sport+ tightens the steering and S enables the paddle shifters, but perhaps Sport+ allows that, too. Haven't tried that yet.

Are these really the same? I doubt it, but does anybody know about this in more detail?

Thanks.

If you have in Sport+ but shifter in D, the paddles will not stay in manual mode unless you have the shifter in S.
Shifter in S: sport throttle response, sport shift points with the ability to use manual paddles and staying in manual mode, normal traction control.
Sport+: sport throttle response, sport shift points with ability to use manual paddles, sport traction control, sport steering wheel.

Just FYI the paddles will still work in D/Sport+. Dont accidentally hit the downshift it will catch you off guard. The computer picks it back up right away though.

Agreed. You wont get MANUAL paddles in D/Sport+ but the definitely still will operate and shift. Found it out the hard way when the car was new and downshifted by accident in D/Sport+ and got a good jerk forward in the seat

Great thread, very helpful.

Sport+ D really wakes up the sluggish response of Normal D, but the hanging rpm's gets tiresome. Will probably end up using Normal S most of the time.

Normal S has the same hanging gear issues. Great on secondary roads, kinda irritating in town. My favorite is Normal S with manual shifting. That way I force it to upshift when cruising, but can keep the revs up a bit so the cat back sounds nice. When the AT dives for 1400 RPM, there's just too much lugging/droning. Keep it over 2000 and it's much more pleasant. 3ed gear is just great in our traffic. I let it sit there a lot.

Yes sir, you are correct. I drove it again shortly after posting and went "Oops, trans is S while in Normal mode does the same thing."

My favorite is Normal S with manual shifting.
If I wanted to shift manually, I would've gotten the stick!

I think I'll just leave it in Normal D, and use the others as needed.

I drive in track all the time, best throttle response, more aggressive rev matching with down shifts! Car feels less restrained!

Yes, it's more responsive. But the rpm hanging gets to me in normal driving.

^^^ this... Kinda... My wife doesn't drive manuals. So for me, the auto with the option for "paddling" gears was a perfect middle ground. On the occasions we need to swap cars it's a plus.

A happy wife is a happy ...

lol

Back in the day when I bought new Fox body 5.0's, my ex was never interested in driving manual trans cars and I wasn't interested in the half a second acceleration penalty of the auto. So they were all sticks.

Today, the auto is quicker! If she only knew ...
